isitafox
Either some Heatsink yellows or if you can afford it some TNN ADV's

miketrials1995
onza ice pads are around £5 on most websites and they work really well on a light or dead grind and last ages even if you drag your brake

liam n
Grinding rims is usual practise for trials. I recommend using a diamond cutting disc and apply gentle pressure, try not to go backwards over bits you've just ground as it kind of rubs off the grind. There are heaps of brake pads out there, if they're set up well and on certain rims a lot can work brilliantly. I'd recommend Coust pads my prefered pad (ones with 10mm of pad, you can buy from www.trials-addict.com and straight from heatsink bikes.) also heat-sink yellows can be pretty good. Rockman blues can work well. and finally TNN ADMs pads which have very good reviews

Rejoinder
It's easy to do, and safe for your rim. Just take it steady and it'll be fine If it was dangerous for you or your rim there wouldn't be so many people who do it.
