Lewis Gething
Hey guys, So I am waiting for the delivery of a Bionic mod frame from the lovely Jake Deakin (JMCD on TF) and we have been discussing which stem would suit the bike best. The frame has the following geo: 1000WB, 350CS and +90BB. I am an advocate of low front ends, and want to go for a 150x30 stem, as my riding involves A LOT of static and back wheel stuff, with my body being very upright when on the back wheel, a similar position to Jack Carthy if you will On the other hand, Jake is telling me that a 165x35 will suit the bike perfectly, and whilst I don't doubt him, I can't help but feel like that wouldn't be as suited to my style as a 150x30. So I guess my question is, would a 150x30 feel too cramped and low with such a high BB rise like +90? To those of you who do have ultra high BB frames, what is your opinion? Thanks very much guys, and thanks to Jake for his opinion Lewis
Jake.
I promise you a 165x35 will feel miles better on a higher bb mod!
mr.tattoo
agreed. i had 150x30 and felt tiny. 165x35 is where its at felt nicer by miles
bing
yes it would. get a 165 x 35. you'll feel like your arse is 6 ft in the air otherwise. and for the ultimate in back wheel feel, roll your bars forward Carthy/ Dave Kerr/ Ross Clayton style. it'll work amazingly well. you'll be near vertical on the back wheel, and get loads of power into a gap
SamKidney
If your going to roll your bars forward on a mod, you may as well get a lower stem on it. I cant understand having bars forward to that extent on a mod. Theyre small enough as it is without lowering your position further. Thats just me though, Im a fan of higher front ends and less extreme bar angles. Id go as far as a 170x35° on a +90 frame. I ran a 165x35° on my Ice, and that was +70.
customrider-Rhys
i run a 180 x 35 on my +55bb koxx hyrdoxx mod, it feels lovely, perfect all round, static and rolls like a dream, perfect for rocks and street
BradJohnson
I'd go for the really long onza master one, they sell a longer on than the usual 165x35, they sell it on trials addict, i'd link you but i'll get banned again!

customrider-Rhys
Trialtech race forged 180mm stem, looks good and is forged
bike_dummie
I have the same frame myself and i run a trialtech stem - 165x35 and it feels perfect with low rise trialtech bars rolled back. Although i feel that a try-all stem may be better suited as the frame is a replica of a Sky 2 for pure trials.
Lewis Gething
Amazing! Thanks for all the replies guys. I have been riding with my bars rolled forwards for 2 years or so now, so that wont be changing The 165 sounds like a much better option than the 150 now. What would a 180x35 Trialtech feel like in relation to a 165x35? Isn't 180 a bit too long?
dave33
I have tried both 150x30 you need a some stackers about 20mm and bars rolled right forward or the trial tech 165x35 stem no stackers Bars not so far as it extends reach. dezmtber
I am running a tryall 150x30 stem with rockman rock bars and 30mm stackers on the rockman Austin +80 bb feels great for me but i am 5'6" If I were taller it would be way too short
Ali C
lol 150mm stem on a +90 bb mod......I think I'd almost rather have a scooter. Personally I would go with the highest stem you can get, but that's what it is, personal. a 165mm stem will still be horrible for actually riding, but if you like to backhop then it wouldn't be so bad.
ginger allen echo
i'm using a bonz forged (175 x 35) with no stackers and monty 221 ti bars on a +85 Rockman manus, this feels about right for me but i haven't tired any other stems on this frame

Isn't 180 a bit too long? 180 would be the perfect stem to make the bike feel like a bike not a Pogo stick,, and make it would be perfect for both rolling and static moves, but then its up to you i spose, i personally would go higher and keep the bike feel, but some like to have bikes that only feel nice on the back wheel and when rolling about make your ass stick in the air 10 ft basically what ali said, personal preference though. lol 150mm stem on a +90 bb mod......I think I'd almost rather have a scooter. bike_dummie
165 is the best of both worlds in my opinion. Recently been riding brakeless and have been doing alot of rolling moves and it feels fine. Spins very well aswell as im not far of 360s flat Get a 165x35 and you wont regret it!
