Blake
Right, basically I've been thinking about getting a continental tyre the back of my stock, however the pretty much slicked maxxis minion I have in there at the moment barely fits and I had to cut off some of the side tread just to make it usable. I have an 07 gu typhoon and a echo urban 47mm rim, does this sound like a recipe for disaster or is it do-able? Also thinking of changing rims so I can go back to having smooth rims, looking at the echo tr which is only 42mm, will this make it a better fit? Thanks
Revolver
Narrower rim will help. The best thing is to get a smaller tyre...
Jake.
What continental tyre though? They have some HUGE ones, their 2.2 ones are the same as tryall 2.5s I read on tarty, don't think it applies to all the tyres though lol. Best thing to do is find out your tyre dimensions, and make sure you don't buy a tyre bigger than what you currently have. Good luck George

Good luck George that is true, the 2.2 rubber queen black chilli tyre is the same size as a try all 2.5 tyre i found out the hard way
Blake
I'm looking at the der kaiser
Alex Dark
Der Kaisers are pretty sizable, with the GU's short chainstays you may have issues. Check the dimensions on Tarty if i were you. Probably end up trimming off some knobbles to make it fit at least
Blake
The only problem is I don't think I have it in me to trim down a £50 tyre
ghostrider88
The only problem is I don't think I have it in me to trim down a £50 tyre It´s surprisingly easy decision...Either a best tire out there or some shitty smaller one that is nowhere close to der kaiser. It´s not like you need sideknobs anyway, if anything it makes the tire almost 100g lighter.
Blake
You raise a valid point, but sidetread I'd surely needed for sidehops?
ghostrider88
You raise a valid point, but sidetread I'd surely needed for sidehops? hm, I wouldn´t say so, but who am I right? But this might help look at Carthy´s tire And also notice conditions he´s riding in.
dann2707
That doesn't mean anything, Carthy seems like he could ride any bike in any condition? If you get me. Like Akrigg on the fixie.

Like Akrigg on the fixie. Just like he could get any tire he wants right? But he choose to use Kaiser with trimmed sideknobs...And that means something. It´s incredible stability and grip of DK that makes it so good, not the sideknobs. Only downside is weight and cutting sideknobs compensates this, for me it´s a win win situation. I know it´s hard to "destroy" brand new expensive tire...But it´s well worth it.

Smashanddash19
I Have a 47mm rim on the rear and I use a mazzis ignitor 2.1 I think it's pretty good and decent value
