How To Make A Tyre Fit A Frame Properly?

Right, basically I've been thinking about getting a continental tyre the back of my stock, however the pretty much slicked maxxis minion I have in there at the moment barely fits and I had to cut off some of the side tread just to make it usable.

I have an 07 gu typhoon and a echo urban 47mm rim, does this sound like a recipe for disaster or is it do-able?

Also thinking of changing rims so I can go back to having smooth rims, looking at the echo tr which is only 42mm, will this make it a better fit?

Thanks :D

What continental tyre though? They have some HUGE ones, their 2.2 ones are the same as tryall 2.5s I read on tarty, don't think it applies to all the tyres though lol.

Best thing to do is find out your tyre dimensions, and make sure you don't buy a tyre bigger than what you currently have.

Good luck George :)

The only problem is I don't think I have it in me to trim down a £50 tyre

It´s surprisingly easy decision...Either a best tire out there or some shitty smaller one that is nowhere close to der kaiser. It´s not like you need sideknobs anyway, if anything it makes the tire almost 100g lighter.

That doesn't mean anything, Carthy seems like he could ride any bike in any condition? If you get me. Like Akrigg on the fixie.

Just like he could get any tire he wants right? But he choose to use Kaiser with trimmed sideknobs...And that means something. It´s incredible stability and grip of DK that makes it so good, not the sideknobs. Only downside is weight and cutting sideknobs compensates this, for me it´s a win win situation. I know it´s hard to "destroy" brand new expensive tire...But it´s well worth it.
