Joshm1991
Hey guys!! I'm wanting to build up a drift trike project with drive at the front wheel but I want it to be free rolling.. Essentially like a freewheel, but for the front wheel! Like whats usually found on this type of thing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0055C6GII/ref=asc_df_B0055C6GII10574019?smid=A17WN5ZRMBFEEI&tag=hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B0055C6GII&hvpos=1o4&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10340504241007936280&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt= In the description it says mag wheel but I don't know for sure if that it what I need to get my hands on! Unicycle wheels were my first thought but they don't freewheel so they'd not be much good to me.. Hope someone can tell me the crack!! Cheers Joosh
CalRobbo341
Its like a bottom bracket with cranks on as a hub Also found on unicycles, I think that's what your on about anyway? Linky
Joshm1991
Yeah that's the unicycle type which is fixed but I'm looking for it to freewheel when I stop peddling if you get me?? That is kinda what I'm after!! Joosh
onza pro series guy
good luck dude, been wanting to do one of these for a while. thought about just running a BMX front wheel with stunt pegs for your feet and no drive, seeing as you can only propperly use thes on hills anyway? Joshm1991
Yeah I have taken it into consideration but I'm hopefully going to have interchangeable wheels on it so I can run the drift wheels when I find a hill and run 26 inch mtb wheels and be able to pedal it when I fancy a bash in the skatepark/bowl or the dirt jumps track near mine! Just something different you know!! might run it with a BMX wheel and stunt pegs until I can source a front wheel with pedals! All I need is someone throwing out a turbo twist cart then that's it sorted!! Joosh
isitafox
ISIS uni hub with FFW cranks fitted, might be a bit tight on the axle length but it's worth throwing out there as an idea. To be fair it doesn't even have to be an ISIS, square taper would do.
Joshm1991
Would that work?? Where would the drive / freewheel come from?? Wouldn't it just be like a unicycle with a FFW on the cranks doing nowt? Joosh
isitafox
Oh yeah, silly me! In that case splash a grand and get a Kris Holme uni freehub
Joshm1991
It would work if I had a chain drive set up like those trikes for disabled people where you pedal with your hands.. Bit that's not quite what I'm after!! Plus, it'll be a ball ache to set up!! hahaa Joosh
isitafox
Only other real option is to have an uber long front end and have the drive run like a giraffe uni with a FFW on some cranks
Joshm1991
Hahaa that would look mental!! nahh I might see if I can grab a cheap turbo twist or green machine thingy on ebay then just rip that apart!! that would be ideal! ZeroMatt
Could grab one of these, it's a spare for one of the adult trikes. Edited November 14, 2012 by ZeroMatt
Joshm1991
Right I've found what I need to get my hands on!! What I need to do is get one of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0055C6GII/ref=asc_df_B0055C6GII10574019/?smid=A17WN5ZRMBFEEI&linkCode=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B0055C6GII&hvpos=1o4&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10340504241007936280&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt= ) and chop the front end off, then weld the front end to the some BMX forks then jobs a guddan!! got the idea when I saw this!! Joshm1991
Bringing this post back from the dead a little, but I finally made one! Cut a BMX up, cut a turbo twist up, weld front end of turbo twist to BMX forks then back end of turbo twist to BMX frame and boom! DRIFT TRIKE! Whadda you think?
