clerictgm
I thought it would be cool to get thats kinda bike. Mostly I like street-trials, but also I like freeride, kickers (also small dirt jumps) and many stuff from different disciplines(hate that word), so It's really hard for me to build some good bike for all that stuff. Well I want to build a bike that can meet these requirements + XC part (to ride some distance, not much, ~40km per day). Guys, can you help me with that? Maybe some strong hardtail with 80mm fork? SamKidney
Inspired fourplay with an 80mm Marzocchi/Society fork, rear pro2, single ring crankset and bashring? Maybe get one of those shimano deraileurs with the clutch mechanism to reduce the amount the deraileur jumps about when performing more trialsy moves? Decent all round brakes would be needed to. Something like Shimano Saints or the likes of. Thats how Id do it. Maybe a hydraulic seat post if theres one that fits? Have the option to drop the seat when needed on the fly, adding to that all round capability. I used to ride trials on my Dmr rhythm before I got a proper one. Was pretty nice for streety riding, or things that needed more flow and less need to use the drivetrain. My gearing meant static moves were a bitch. Nigel Kilgar
inspired hex is a better option over the fourplay
SamKidney
inspired hex is a better option over the fourplay No rear disc mount though...unless they release it with one any time soon. I wouldnt want a mag screeching at me on an xc ride. Could run a smooth rim but braking performance will drop off as soon as it gets wet or muddy, which goes against its all round ability. alanczik
im happy you asked as im exactly building myself the same thing in my opinion... you cant xc with trial bike..you can (try a little) trial with xc bike if you build it the right way! first you need a nice hard tail.. im looking for an old santa cruz camilion second you go as light as possible keeping only whats really important - hope rear hub - wide bar -good gears that wont fail and kill you -good brakes..disc are nicer -a (not so heavy) 80-125 m"m fork that's it..its easy to make mistake and take the wrong parts...forget about hydraulic seat post (there too heavy) forget s.i.d forks (there light but fragile) remember you wont really go trial with it..the geometry of xc and trial are compliantly opposite but you'll have a great fun bike Edited November 12, 2012 by alanczik

ULtrialsguy
You'd still end up standing while you cycle which is no good for xc cycling. You need a high seat post.
dezmtber
I am lucky to only be 5'6" xc bikes are only 15" for me
