onzatpro09
Yesterday i rode my bike for about an hour and a half. Without noticing, i had developed two massive blisters ON THE PALM OF MY HAND. These blisters are preventing me from doing ANYTHING. And i mean anthing. Any tips for stopping this? (btw i was wearing proper trials gloves) Also, i'd like to hear about your funny/painful/embarrasing trials related mis-haps. Any help/answers would be much appreciated. Danny00135
How long have you been riding trials? I've never had blisters but huge callous', the best thing to do would to be a man and ride, the tougher your hands get the less blisters you'll get and the more you can ride without feeling pain
onzatpro09
Im a noob, only been riding for a couple of weeks, (of alot of riding though, about 30 mins a day) and its been fine, all until yesterday. Danny00135
Give it time, I ride without gloves and my hands never hurt What grips are you using? I'd suggest you get some Trialtech foams
Jon Alty
Needs time. Obviously you need to care for your hands if they are f**ked, but don't make the mistake of moisturising the shit out of your hands all the time because they are sore with blisters + callouses. Just wait for the blister to harden itself, then head back out riding.
Blake
let the blisters harden, then you will have hard skin for hands, and you can officially call yourself a trials rider.

ULtrialsguy
Yeah it'll hurt for a while but soon enough your hands will toughen up and you'll be fine. I worked outdoors with tools like shovels and picks for years before I started trials so I already had good callouses.
VAMPIRE V12
i'm running plastic grips at the moment on my jump bike, DMR muta grips they are lock on's rubber on top with plastic underneath to provide strength all the rubber has worn off and i'm just riding on the plastic but i've had nothing close to blisters on my hands, hard skin but not blisters. maybe try some skin cream to soften them back into the skin? Revolver
It's fun watching TF try to spell callous. The worst attempt I've seen so far is 'calice'.

Jake.
Using gloves helps, but I've heard if you don't wash them regulary that they can build up loads of bacteria and cause blisters and crap. Don't take my word for it though, heard it on tv somewhere.

ogre
grip and glove choice make no difference, you twist the bars alot in trials, i had a break over summer, and my hands have been decimated by riding. just deal with it, let them toughen don't be tempted to pick them. foam grips help to an extent, but i shredded my palm on foamies... just part of the sport i guess... Skin cream is the worse thing you can do. If you soften your skin, it'll tear and get blisters easier. Your hands toughen and get callus's to cope with the abuse of riding. Just give your hands enough time to heal inbetween rides, and they'll toughen up by themselves
JKH
I figure I should respond to this thread because after years of bicycle and moto trials competitions, I have figured out how to stop callouses. I used to get them really bad but now I don't have any at all! There are a few secrets, but they main ones are foam grips and proper gloves. The foams I am using are the trialtech ones that are a bit thicker, and I use mechanix "utility" gloves that are one size too small. Don't make the mistake of using the more expensive leather mechanix gloves - those are terrible - you need the cheap synthetic grey ones with the velcro strap. The other gloves which are good are the Hebo ones, but the palms are a bit slippery until they are broken in, they are expensive, and they have this weird stretchy "mesh" material between the fingers which tears easily. But if you can afford a few pairs of these a year all the power to you - they are good gloves. The other secret is to not ride with wet gloves, or wet hands. If it is raining at a comp, I bring a bag full of gloves and change them every few sections. On a hot, humid day I swap between 2 or 3 pairs and let the wet ones dry on a rock while I wear the other ones. The last tip has to do with technique. When you grab your handlebars, slide you fingers on the bar, then wrap the fingers rather than just grabbing the bar and letting that piece of flesh at the top of the your palm get caught. Also, about hand cream, I think its a great idea to use it after you ride to keep your hands soft and smooth. The girls (or boys, depending on your preference) you are with will appreciate it because nobody likes to be touched by gross scratchy dirty calloused hands! Azarathal
Can't remember the exact details but I saw a post on here stating why hand cream is good. I use it, never get pain riding and have callused yet soft hands because of it. Used to powerlift using nothing but chalk without pain too (nothing heavier than 185kg deadlifts but it still probably does more damage to skin than trials)
Blake
I used to ride till it felt like my hands were going to bleed, then wince for five minutes then ride some more till it was the end of the ride and the pain was almost unbearable. after a few months of doing this almost every day my hands were not far off bullet proof.
