CalRobbo341
She most likely has a 30 or 60 click Tensile freewheel, the 60 click is a good freewheel with a decent sound and engagement points, but the are louder ones and ones with higher engagement points. Plus the freewheel could be old making it a little dead on the inside. She most likely has a 30 or 60 click Tensile freewheel, the 60 click is a good freewheel with a decent sound and engagement points, but there are louder ones and ones with higher engagement points. FamilyBiker
take apart, clean, oil, put together. that makes it louder but explode sooner then usual.

FamilyBiker
nothing lasts forever, especially with the wrong lubrication haha
Danny00135
it could have grease/mud/crap in it, try spraying it with gt85/wd40 so it flushes anything else out

ginge
Anyone got a simple way to make it louder without taking it apart?
FamilyBiker
put it into thin oil over night, isnt going to give the same result though Edited November 4, 2012 by FamilyBiker
Jamie_Trials
Get some heat to it and burn the grease that was left in there to keep lubricated and stop it from being damaged.
Greetings
You could always record the freewheel sound, convert it to an mp3 and upload it onto her ipod? Then she can have it as loud as she wants.
isitafox
Do as above and flush it out with some GT85. Tensiles are built up with some quite thick grease which makes them quiet and more likely to skip on you so a good clean up should see it right. I wouldn't worry about it exploding at all, one of the most durable FFW's you can get is a tensile. They stand up to some proper hammer, just ask Flipp who was using one with about 2 pawls left for ages!

dann2707
wd-40+bikes parts=nono Interesting. Why not?
the mysterious leemur
Interesting. Why not? WD40 isn't silicone based so it can mess with seals on brakes and stuff like that and will contaminate brake pads but as there is no rubber seals in a freewheel I can't see the problem to be honest
FamilyBiker
Interesting. Why not? its collecting dust like a magnet collects iron powder,so sooner or later no more pawl movement...
Ben Gosden
viz one2zero it has 120 engagement points and sounds like a low flying helicopter has just passed by also there a fluids designed to make freewheels sound louder but i would'nt suggest using them. dann2707
I can kind of see where he's coming from, back in my naive days I used to use WD40 as a chain lubricant and it would easily attract dust and shit to it.
Martin Reynolds
True, but a chain's massively exposed to the air, where as the internals of a freewheel are virtually sealed.
FamilyBiker
i´m coming from the background of beeing a bicycle mechanic, where high pressure cleaners for bearings and wd40 in general are no-gos hahaha edit:only sealed freewheels i know are whites.tell me if i´m wrong. and:air is everywhere, except space.lol Edited November 4, 2012 by FamilyBiker

And yes, there is air in freewheels, just not not any airflow through them which would cause dust buildup.
Greetings
I agree, would never use WD40 on a freewheel again after doing it a few times in the past.
