dezmtber
u could always just put your foot in the wheel to stop it turning, works most times ok. good set of pads and light grind is best though

dngr2self
Have you tried yellows on a smooth rim with a dab of tar? I used to and it was spot on when it was dry. I ground the rim for comps though.
chris H
To be perfectly honest, i didnt ask for 20 people telling me to grind. But so you all know i have a harsh grind that is a few weeks old and belayes. I want to add that tiny bit of OOOMMMPPHHH! I know how to apply tar and i personally like the tiniest dab of it, not as some call it rim toilet paper.
dngr2self
I found that when I had a fresh grind it didn't work too well but with a dead grind and little bit of tar it works really well. The pads and rim can make a difference to how well it works though.
trialsEuan
I used to use tar all the time with a Vee brake on Coust pads, it worked very well but I he'd the way it tends to 'stick' and then stopped using it. I found on a smooth rim, if you clean it with acetone or brake cleaner; then the brake works amazingly and it quite loud as well!

Here you go, 200kg worth of tar for £1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bitumen-block-keg-tar-asphalt-roof-Yes-1-Just-Need-Gone-/170933955536#vi-content
shercofray
I've heard it works great on discs too. Put a grind on with the tar and it is unbelievable. Makes your disk real loud aswell. Honk.
SamKidney
I like to dip my wheel in liquid tar and wait until it sets. It works the best.
