mr.tattoo
after some advice, standard onza blade 2010, am i right in thinking bars and forks are chromoly? what would be the diference if any weight wise if i put a set of trialtech risers on and changed stem and forks for say echo etc? trying to gauge wether its worth it and if its a noticeable weight saving for the amount of cash new parts? basicaly is there much diference between onza forks and echo etc and likewise bar and stem? cheers
Martin Reynolds
Yes! i was in the same boat as you, the forks are 1.3kg, and the bars 700+ grams. Changing bars and forks can save you easily 500 grams, and thats a notisable weight difference, especially considering its all ocming off the front end
ogre
big weight savings make a dramatic difference in the way a bike rides. changing chromoly forks to alloy ones is a night and day improvement. alloy bars with nice geo will help too but i don't know the weights enough to say... the only steel should be spokes, sprockets, bearings and bolts, and axles if your a monster.
bing
removing a massive amount of weight from the front end will make your bike a damn site easier to get up stuff. for an easy experiment, like I did, change the parts for the lighter ones, then tape a bag of sugar to the underneath of your stem. go and ride your fave spot for half an hour. then remove it and go ride again. you will get up bigger stuff straight away, as well as helping your mindset at the same time. the feel from ally will be loads better as well Edited October 28, 2012 by bing
williams
I had a Onza pro before it has the same bars, forks and stem as the Onza Blade you have. The forks weight 1.3kg and the bars weight 750grams. You'll be able to save almost 1 kg just by changing that. You will deffo notice it! Blake
I'm really not a weight weeny, but having a light front end is fairly essential to me, as it directly affects how the bike rides. A light set of forks and some new bars will really give the bike a much flickier and less sluggish feel!
mr.tattoo
thanks for the replies, yeah im not fussed about weight per say its just the onza feels a bit heavy on the front and as you say slugish, just wondered if forks and bar and stem would make a big diference as if the front was a tad lighter it would feel real nice i reckon, cheers

BradJohnson
Echo urbans are light and strong or sl's TrialTechs are the best bet light and strong, but pricey. As they say: Light weight Strength Cheap Pick two, the one thats left they wont be. Eg) light weight and cheap, they won't be strong. forks disc mount? 4 bolt, also the wheels are non disk, so they save a few grams too. go duel rim brake to same more weight.
