weebryan
Got my new laptop yesterday and been playing about, really its the best of both worlds, metro is like an app type interface easy and quick to use, only bad side can be fiddly if not a touch screen and mouse pad uses all corners for shortcuts and things like that and swipes like a touch can zoom in same as phone on mouse pad The Windows desktop has no start, was a bit hard to find a way to find it but got it sorted now and seems all good, fast smooth and my battery life is amazing 5+ hours easy Took me a while to get the grips of it but i like it really, fast and alot more details ie task manager shows loads more than vista, xp so see how it continues as it updates :wink2:
Muel
Press the windows key, much faster. I've been playing with it, and I'm not convinced. It's very "swish" but I got annoyed by it. I much prefer the W7 interface, where I just pin everything to the taskbar, so it's 1 click to launch any of my regular apps, not 2. 2 clicks is double the amount of clicks as I do now, which is a step backwards.
JT!
I have the option to upgrade to windows 8 for $14.99 on my new laptop, interesting to see how it's working out for people.
Muel
If you keep the W7 licence it comes with as well, do it dude. The W8 upgrade licences are selling for £40 second hand.

Jake.
Heard that you can switch between windows 7 and windows 8 within the OS by one option if you don't like it.

Not that easily anyway, but using a simple registry hack you can disable metro and get the W7 style start menu up. It's not the same as the old one, but very close. weebryan
Well i came from a phillips laptop, vista, no battery 120gb hdd and 2gb ram, crap in hd video and anything else, so done reset to factory and updated it and was full with 300 updates Now i have a samsung, windows 8, 8gb ram 1tb hdd , and a battery lol so anything is way better but the clicks thing is no biggie for me its really not that bad. Luke Dunstan
Had a VERY quick bash at windows 8 yesterday. It felt and looked horrible. But as I said I only had a quick go so maybe it'll grow on me. Think I'll stick to XP for now though!
Muel
You're still using XP? Philistine. I've been playing with it and it's growing on me. If you set up the start screen how you want it, then it quickly becomes just a better version of the start menu. It's like a start menu, but bigger, with bigger things to click. That's better. MadManMike
I saw 8 in a shop, not my cup of tea - just a phone OS put on a PC really. I'll stick to 7.
Muel
Not really IMO, It has a desktop, the only difference is that the start menu is now a full screen thing with tiles instead of icons. It's phone/tablet influenced, but not a full phone/tablet UI. Edited October 28, 2012 by Muel
Tony Harrison
I have the option to buy Win 8 for £14.99 because I bought a Windows 7 laptop this summer, but I really can't see the point. It's running fine right now and whilst this thing should easily handle 8, I just don't want to change right now.
TrialsIsHard
I've had a brief go with Windows 8, and unless you're using a touch screen I really don't see the point.. I am however seriously looking at the Nokia 920, Windows 8, dual core snapdragon processors. I think it will be slicker than Apple iOS
Andeee
Windows 8 is like MAC but for losers
Mikee
I had a play in pc world yestarday and I like the look of it, but it is an absolute b*****d to navigate on a pc. Constantly moving the mouse all over the place just to do the simplest of tasks and all the option are hidden, hover over to appear. And I don't like how the apps are completely separate to the desktop. For example, internet explorer. It felt really slap dash and I really don't think microsoft thought it through. I don't see how they didn't notice these problems when they were testing it. It's like they totally forgot their biggest market. chimpanzyyyy
bring back xp please
aener
I can't even bring myself to care. To me, an OS is a tool. 7 does everything I want/need it to. Before that, XP did, and I only changed because when I started a fresh installation it was easier to get hold of 7 than XP. I'd consider 8 if there were things that I didn't like about 7, but I can't think of anything I'd want an OS to do that it doesn't. I'll probably try it out when I next start afresh, depending on it's reviews up until then
g1nge@trials
if i could i would go back to XP but i think 7 is just as good. Vista was just s**t and its the same i think with 8 its always the next ones after thier best one which wont be as good. Al my friends have taken back thier windows 8 laptops for a refund to get windows 7 back because it just didnt work for them. ive also heard alot of people who said they wont be buying a windows 8 pc or laptop ever and will stick with 7 until it becomes obsolete like XP. but thats just mine and my friends opinions
MadManMike
How do people still like XP the most?? 7 is a pimped-up version of XP, the taskbar is infinitely better (Granted it takes a while to get used to when you switch to 7). I can understand the hating on Vista and 8, I mean Vista was slow and clunky and 8 looks a little too weird for me, but 7 is basically a much better looking XP with a few extra features thrown in. I use XP at work and whilst it's quick and works well, I much prefer 7.
