isitafox
Spotted a wall down Salford Quays this morning that looked alright for practicing hooks on so I had a go. Don't even know if I was doing it right or not so I'm well open to criticism/pointers, also it was the first time I've ever attempted them and without anyone to ask I just had to go with what I thought was the correct technique. JoNnY__Mc
Looks about right, try and find a slightly higher wall if you can. You know you've nailed it when you can hook to back wheel without hitting your cranks.
isitafox
Yeah I thought it was a bit small but had a nice slope into it so thought I'd have a go to break me in!
JoNnY__Mc
Yer for sure, its a nice wall to practice on! I know some people practice on pallets aswell by placing a pallet on an angle at the bottom of the hook so that could be an idea
Ali C
get your weight further forwards, you don't need to go any higher (I always aim to get my front wheel just over the top of the wall) This way, all of the upwards momentum from the hop carries on up and on top of the wall. If you your weight is forwards, you hardly have to do anything in the second stage. so yeah, weight further forwards is the key, then you'll be getting manuals out of it.
dave33
Your going far to high, not really a hook. Sorry for sounding like a fanny! You need to find a more vertical wall and bend your legs more while pushing the bike into the wall. Let your hips go forwards slightly to help getting the weight over the front and forwards Good effort though, it's good to practice getting up the wall but don't do that to much other wise you will find it hard to get the correct hooking technique as you will resort to your bad habit technique. N.Wood
Stack like 2 pallets ontop and try it then. Looks like with some more effort you could almost roll to 2.
isitafox
I could get up to 2 on it just thought it looked a decentish height to have a play. Will try and find something a bit more suitable near home but I achieved what I set out to which was get some advice about if I was going about it right or not. dave33
what do you mean by hes going to high ? just wondering.. i am also trying to learn hooks By going high it's basically transforming the linear force into a trying to rip the forks off using a 90 degree wedge By landing lower your pushing the bike directly into the front of the wall making it easy to keep the moment going forwards
