VAMPIRE V12
now then guys. I've got myself another stem to put on my stock but my forks are a bit short (when i got them they had been cut down) when i put the stem on the forks with out any spacers the stem clamps up to over the first bolt but half way up towards the second bolt. So my question is what is really safe? Has anyone else had this problem? or if they got away with running one bolt? Cheers guys
Danny00135
Mines just like that, quite a problem, since it's only clamping using one bolt, it puts uneven stresses on the steerer clamp, so chances are at some point it'll crack in-between the bolts. only thing I could suggest it to get a stem with a sloping top cap :/ also depending on what headset you have, if it's an open bearing headset like an fsa pig then you could shed some space by buying a slimmer like an echo sl headset or something of the sort... might get the steerer to reach the second bolt. VAMPIRE V12
I was thinking about shaveing some off the stem at the top and bottom to see if that would help, its an echo stem. and atm its a shi**y Cane creek headset. Danny00135
I suppose it's a bit like like cracking your frame, on paper it's likely to happen, but wheather it does is a different story. I run mine like that and i've had no problems Edited October 24, 2012 by Danny00135
VAMPIRE V12
I suppose it's a bit like like cracking your frame, the same stresses are put on it, but it's not that likely that it'll happen. I run mine like that and i've had no problems Ahh well ill give it a bash cheers man!!
onza pro series guy
if you have to ask, its proaly not safe. In this case I wouldn't run it. Have you thought about contacting JAF Bikes about a steerer tube extention?
SamKidney
What forks you running? If it's something like try-all's your screwed really. If its something burlier like Trialtech's or Echo's you should be fine

isitafox
Think it's around £25 for an extension but I'm not sure if that includes postage. That's for a screw in extension, think Josh can do a cheaper welded extension but you're best giving him a ring.
