Company Typeface/logo Help

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, and I look forward to becoming an active member.

The long and short of this post if, I am starting a new venture in Canada, working with a few existing companies in Canada and the US to get things rolling. Frames are being made, parts are being sourced and the business plan is being followed...now to the fun stuff, the name!

It's been narrowed down to 4, as you see in the pic. The script will be used alot, however, the block lettering will be the main typeface of the brand.

Anyone have input??

I look forward to you opinions!

CDub

Edit: I should describe a bit. Street trials frames that can run 24" and 26", and will launch most likely with rims and bars as well....

ALSO - I'll note - The block lettering will the "brand" call it. I posted the script as I'd like to use it on some frames, etc as model name typefaces etc...

From a designer's perspective, that script is pretty horrendous especially if you're planning on using it a lot. Speaking of which, where/ what is that gonna be used for?

I quite like the right hand text, the general idea's been done an awful lot but hey, it works. Are you trying to choose between the names too?

I agree with JD you don't want to be having different typefaces it's just going to confuse people.

I don't like the script either it's horrible. As for the other style Having two words together using the font's different weights to seperate them has been done so much but it does work, if in dought use Helvetica that's what they say.

Check out Losttype they have some good fonts.

They don't look terrible - not even close.

The logos on the right and tiresomely repetitive but they're not awful. Think of Charge bikes logo - that's not a million miles from those and it's not 'awful' or 'terrible'.

I think the mixture of script and san-serif is a mistake, however there are companies that have variations of their logos to suit different sectors within the company. Due to this I don't think it's a suitable approach to a small start-up. However once more in the realm of bike companies, nearly all have multiple logos for certain purposes. Ghost, Lapierre, NS Bikes etc all use different logos to indicate their different ranges so within the bike industry this is one approach that has some value.

In regards to your designs... the script is sloppy. I think there is a possibility for a beautifully done hand-drawn typeface for a bike company - it could be an interesting approach. Check out these guys for illustration and typography inspiration: www.ilovedust.com.

What I don't get with the approach on the right is why you've used a condensed typeface for the heavier weightier text with a traditionally spaced thin weight text? That makes it look unbalanced. If you'd used Helvetica black or bold with the thin/light type it would look infinitely better however this approach has been done to death and is dull. It's not tried and tested - it's boring and unimaginative and people are sick of seeing it.

I think you should continue to explore some more ideas and not try and produce something expected. There could be some mileage in the script idea - it just needs development.

Personally I'd rule out the name Ally-bikes just because it's too easily confused with meaning aluminium. Blok could work, but I think you'll constantly get search engines looking for you coming up with 'did you mean block', followed by a load of links to ken block etc..

I quite like Balanced bikes, I think that's the one I'd go with personally. Capital just makes me think of the NS capital frame.

As for the logos, I'd agree that they look like they need a little more work, especially the script, but then I'm no expert to tell you in what way they need changing!

I quite like Balanced bikes,

Unfortunately Balanced Bikes will then just come up with 'did you mean balance bikes' and give you bunch of kids bikes...
