Callum125
Hi Guys just joined and looking for some ideas, I'm looking for a bike for my son, he is 15 and 6' tall he rides motorbike trials and is pretty good on a BMX too. He fancies a go at cycle trials but will probably be more street biased although it will no doubt get put in the van when we have the trials bikes out. years ago I did use a 20" Monty as a practise bike for trials but one the choice seems huge. We have a budget of around £500 and I'm a firm believer in used, well looked after been better value than new. But after spending the last few weeks looking at all the usual places I'm a bit stuck as to what would be best for him I'm thinking 24" or 26" mainly due to his size and the fact that the scope for street riding seems better than a 20". Hope someone can give some useful suggestions, and maybe if anyone has anything suitable for sale drop it in to the conversation.
Lewis Gething
Hi, welcome to the forum! By the sounds of it, your son will benefit best from a 24" trials bike, as you said he is a competent BMXer,and as a result his style would be best suited to that sort of bike. I happen to have a 24" Inspired Fourplay for sale, message me for more details

alistair14
24" Does sound good ...But im 6 foot and i ride a mod perfectly, I'm not saying he should go straight to 24 ..but give 20" a go first! ..I went from 26 MTB down to 20" and found it a lot easier! liam n
Hi Guys just joined and looking for some ideas, I'm looking for a bike for my son, he is 15 and 6' tall he rides motorbike trials and is pretty good on a BMX too. He fancies a go at cycle trials but will probably be more street biased although it will no doubt get put in the van when we have the trials bikes out. years ago I did use a 20" Monty as a practise bike for trials but one the choice seems hug Hi, He will be fine on any size of bike I'm sure. I know 6ft + people who ride 20" and under 5ft 8in ish people that ride 26" Depends whether he wants to go down the inspired/Danny Macaskill route street/bmx riding or more competition "pure" trials street (jack Carthy etc.) show him some videos and see what he thinks? The inspired fourplay that has been offered to you is made for more BMX influenced riding. If you can set up a bike well and maintain one I'm sure you'll be fine getting a used bike. In my opinion the best thing he could do would be to go for a 20" bike because they're easier to learn on and you can pick up a relatively light, good spec one at your budget. He could then move on to 26" when he becomes more advanced. Check out my website www.trials-expert.com It shows you what parts i recommend, how to maintain and rid your bike, where to ride etc. check out this page for my opinions on buying first bikes http://www.trials-expert.com/#/buying-your-first-bike/4569639689 I hope I have been of some help, Liam
Callum125
Thanks Liam some really useful info on there, think we're heading possibly down the 24" route as that's probably more suited to what he wants. But time will tell no doubt, going to try a few different options first
