There are about 25 seniors on a forum with 10,000 members, with access to SMC. However you look at it, that shit is shit. Not even 1% of the forum are considered to be "higher level" members. to be honest I think i should be in there, 6 years and 15k posts show enough dedication. If not, then I must be pissing people off a lot, if so, give me some f**king warns. Last one was a joke by OBM about 4 years ago. I haven't added any new SMs for a while, mainly because I don't think the whole SM thing is really that healthy for the forum. Sure, its great to be on the 'inside' (and very handy for topics like this), and then to vote all your mates in, but for the members who are on the outside who don't see why they're not in.. it can't be so nice. In the same way as you lot [senior members] are wondering 'why isn't Anal an SM yet?', everyone else is thinking 'why aren't I an SM yet?' - a good example of the issue of segregating members into different groups and the issues it causes :/ Believe it or not Muel, I'm on your side about SMs. That is just a post I've found from a thread in sm chat from a while back, but I've been saying the same for years. Ignoring it isn't going to fix anything. IMO social hierarchies are a good thing, but maybe that's the reason that I don't run a forum. If you want a good example, look at the overclockers.co.uk forum. The rules are set in stone, they even update them using version numbers, and they enforce them religiously, yet they have over 100k members and over 16 million posts, because there is a very strong community feel and because they listen to the community, rather than popping up every year or so saying "Lol, errm, this thread/section is shit so I'm closing it, have fun!". They vote, like in a democracy, then agree the rules, and the moderators enforce them. I used to quite like reading the Happy/Angry threads, they seemed to work well as everyone could just vent their anger, or start a small discussion for a few posts... no point in starting a topic just to say you got laid, or whatever. I didn't like how inactive it made the forum look, as all 'The threads' were the only ones being posted in, and any new topics that were started just got a responce saying 'This should be in the X thread!' Other forums I use have a similar sub-forum, where everyone just posts whatever they like as long as it's within the guidelines. Replies which are just something like ' ' are fine, and no one gets 'flamed' for it! Seems a friendlier place and it's easier to find certain topics instead of going back through pages and pages of crap in a certain thread. 'Best Of The Internet' is a good thread, but again it falls into that 'this should be in X thread' when funny things are posted! Why do we need to organise the sub-forums so much? Senior Members should be automatically upgraded(?) after a certain date/usage of the forum. I think there should be the Senior Member chat where we can still discuss forum upgrades etc, as we've been around for however long so we can come up with new ideas, etc, and we can secretly moan about Jardo's potential 'I just broke my lighter' threads I like being able to edit my posts like a ninja though! Greetings Posted October 23, 2012 Author Report Share Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) To add to the "numbers went up" argument - even if they did go up due to some changes in chit chat, surely this is not a part of the forum where you should worry about activity? This is a bike trials forum after all and the trials related forums are what matters most. Not a bunch of guys who used to be riders exchanging views on subjects completely unrelated to the sport. I'd understand the logic behind this argument if trials chat was full of the freewheel threads, the brake pad threads etc. That'd be pretty detrimental to the forums. I really think more freedom is due here, after all if you look through the members who frequently post in chit chat, you'll find that many have contributed a LOT to the forums before they ended up in the retired zone. edit: Yay!
