Luke Dunstan
It's just about Samsung 'beating' the flagship feature of the iPad. Probably the reason they waited to announce it in between the new iPads being announced, and them being released. I nearly went for an iPad but saw this and I'm converted! Tomm
Get an Android tablet if you want one. But to get this particular one because the resolution is slightly, imperceivably, better than an iPad is just a bit silly.

The screen and size of the ipad was swaying me before hand, but now Samsung have announced this, it's going to be king of the tablets and cheaper.
omgnoseat
The whole retina stuff is bullshit. I hate this generation of tech with all their stupid tech terms. The nexus screen should have sharper visuals, they just don't tag a fancy name on it.
Tomm
Most people don't know or care what 2048 x 1536 means though, or 480/720/1080 p/i. Retina just means 'hi res' in a way people can understand without having to be a nerd, surely that's no bad thing?

Retina just means 'hi res' in a way people can understand without having to be a nerd, surely that's no bad thing? I think the term "High Definition" covers that pretty much. And I don't think that you have to be a nerd to understand that 1080 is more than
Tomm
OK then, but how many people know the difference between 1080i and 1080p? Who would guess that one displays twice as much data as the other one? I just think that it's bringing good technology to the masses. And that's a good thing. Sure, if you're clever and you can wade through the specs and determine that a particular device is 6% better for you, great. Most people can't be bothered with that stuff though. Who would guess that one displays twice as much data as the other one? Aren't they conveying exactly the same amount of data? 1080i just gives you 50 half frames instead of 25 full ones ? Better motion smoothness but a worse image quality.
omgnoseat
1080i is only used in televisions, so it's not relevant for tablets

Better motion smoothness but a worse image quality. Unless the 1080p is at 50fps, in which case it's double the data / bandwidth of 1080i at 50 fields/s. I can't really remember the ins and outs, it's complicated.
