Pashley26
I miss the happy thread, can we please have it back? I actually find myself posting on here less without it.
AdamR28
So that's a good reason to not start a new one?
Ash-Kennard
I'm happy because all my coursework groups at uni have gotten a good kick in the arse and projects are finally getting properly started also happy despite being in uni from 9-6.30 because i managed to answer a fair few very hard tutorial questions. yay knowledge

Muel
This has been tried many times. It has also failed many times. The reasons it was closed were utter horse shit if you ask me, but they were reasons none the less.
Little Yoshi
And what was the reason? Did it not break the forum?

Revolver
And what was the reason? Did it not break the forum? That, and the fact it squeezes the whole forum into a handful of topics, which is a bit lame really.
Pashley26
The reasons were that administrators believe that getting rid of the generic topics allows more forum activity and more diverse topics. In reality I think people just don't post as much; TF has been really dull lately. Chit Chat used to be the most active part of the forum. Not in any way shape or form saying I know better than Tom and Danny; but the closure of the Happy and Angry threads is IMO a back step for the forum. Personally I don't post as much on TF anymore due to the inability to just share a happy experience or have a random brain fart in a generic thread.
anzo
Agreed. However they made it less strict on starting new topics, so it's a wider discussion in general. Happy thread was good, but ran its lifespan and you found 30 conversations going on at once in there.
Muel
They gave everyone a place to "bond" as a community, and now I don't feel that happens any more. The reasons were partially because they were overloading/breaking stuff (boo hoo, just restart the topic and archive the old one like every other forum), and partly to encourage more people to post in Chit-Chat because it was too "clicky". Since they've closed, I feel (strongly I might add) that more and more members are giving up an going elsewhere. You might be getting more users in terms of numbers, but I think they should be chasing a quality user-base, not quantity. The way to get quality is to encourage the community feel of the place, which for me was centred around the "thread" threads. tomturd
However they made it less strict on starting new topics, We were never strict on starting new topics, I don't think anyway... It was more members saying "THERES A THREAD FOR THIS" (personally that made me die a little bit every time I read it). Could be rose tinted glasses though.. If you've refurbished a lighter, start a new topic. Sounds pretty interesting to me, no need to hide it in here And not that traffic necessarily correlates with someones perception of activity, but you may remember me saying a while back that traffic was consistently on a month by month downwards trend (for about 18 months, maybe more). Its been on an upwards trend for the past 3, with more traffic last month than we've had for the past 15 months odd. I've certainly noticed a lot more members online recently Since they've closed, I feel (strongly I might add) that more and more members are giving up an going elsewhere. You might be getting more users in terms of numbers, but I think they should be chasing a quality user-base, not quantity. The way to get quality is to encourage the community feel of the place, which for me was centred around the "thread" threads. To be frank, we had a community feel waaaay before you joined and way before the happy and angry threads. I would say the threads and the 'community' it encouraged did their part to put people off checking back on the forum to see whats going on. It's subjective, you think one way, I think another.
