Carlperkins
alright I recently sold a range cooker for my parents. we got a new one so didnt want the old. the old one sat outside in the garden covered by a huge plastic bag for a week whilst it was on ebay. i listed the cooker as spares or repair because its in crap condition and just wanted shot of it. heres a link. dont know if you will be able to see it as its ended. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290792199225?ssPageName=STRK:MEUSX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1560.l2649 anyway, in the listing i said it all worked fine (which it does) a guy emailed and said he'd offer £300 for it, in my response email i explained that it was in shit condition and that it would need alot of TLC, and also that i wouldnt personally want it in my kitchen. I accepted the 300, he sent me £50 through paypal and came to collect a few days later giving me the other £250 in cash. looked at it and was all happy and then left. then i get this email... I know you listed the item as faulty but you did say it was in full working order The following things are either not working or not as described, Grill Pan, your mother brought out the grill pan when i mentioned it was missing,it was not the right size for the cooker maybe a mistake but no good to me. Your pictures did not show the the burner tops which are all rusty The wok cradle plate is missing The inside handy rack is missing But the main issue is the lower left oven door it is not shown in your picture but rust as made the paint blister and is quite bad,i will send you a picture if you wish. Please don't take this the wrong way,you came across as a good guy just wanting to finance your camper van project, but I had to travel the better part of 8 hours to pick up the item and return home, which was not actually what i expected. Look let me know what you think, refund appreciated then no other action taken. Again sorry but really £300 for that ? now i dont want to be a willy, but to be fair he offered me the 300, I would have accepted £20. also the item was described as "spares or repair" AND the item was sold out of ebay for cash. also if its sold as spares or repair.. its a bit weird that he was expecting the original grill pan and all the other crap? i don't even know what a wok cradle or handy rack is!?! now he says about "refund or no other action will be taken" but what could he do? besides come back down here and ask me face to face? and if i were to refund, (which i wont) would he have to deliver it back to me first? what do you guys think? personally i think hes a twat and i should probably just ignore him. Luke Rainbird
Chuck him a £50 refund, tell him you weren't aware of the wok cradle/whatever and get on with your respective lives. If you're feeling nice call it £75/100 since you've already got way more than you were expecting/happy to receive
Carlperkins
hmm yeah that would be the reasonable thing to do. thing is that £300 went straight to buying some disabled apparatus etc for my nan, so i'm kinda pissed off that he has decided to say now, if he had of said when he came to pick it up it wouldn't have been a problem. also.. i bought a 1975 campervan as spares or repair. which means its either only good for spare bits, or need repairing right? if i had moaned because it didnt have the original rock and roll bed, cooker and steering wheel.. that just seems so unreasonable on his side? Luke Rainbird
Yep - it's entirely up to you but a token few quid just as a gesture of good will is never going to hurt. Keep him sweet, rather than sending you a box full of shit in the mail.
Muel
He turned up, checked it out and parted with his money. He could see for his own eyes what it was worth, so he doesn't have a leg to stand on. If he turns up, call the police.
JT!
For a start, you never stated it was in "full working order". Item condition on the ebay page states "for parts or not working". You then go on to say "it does work". So you need to correct him on that. (Providing you never said anything to him by any other means). Secondly, he came and picked this up, if he was coming 8 hours round trip, least he could have done was actually looked at the thing. I think you should maybe offer him some kind of refund, however you aren't in the wrong at all so you shouldn't have to. Edited October 20, 2012 by JT! trials hoe
its say's sold as spares or repairs, indicating that it is not fit for purpose, he came and looked at it and still payed. i'd say its his mistake and not yours, you should have put sold as seen on it for the 'no comebacks' thing. is it the same guy that left you the rude feedback? he seems like a bit of a spitefull dick to me... Carlperkins
Haha nah the guy who left me the feedback was a scammer, and when i called him out in it he said that i was lucky he didnt come to pick it up cos he would slap me. Haha. I hvent had much luck on ebay lately haha. Just re read my emails and i said "it works fine" and "its a bit tatty"
george_seamons
I think the sticking point is that he came to pick it up, so had a chance to view it there and then, and let you know of anything he was unhappy with. The fact he didn't, and has only now written to complain would suggest he is trying it on. Don't offer him a refund, you have done nothing wrong, it was sold as spares or repairs. The fact it works is a bonus. Ignore him. The worst he will do is leave bad feedback, which you can "respond" to anyway to air your side of the story. Sod him! Tony Harrison
Don't encourage this kind of behaviour. If he had any issues about the cooker not matching the listing description, then his opportunity to have it out with you was before taking it and handing over the rest of the cash. Sounds like perhaps he hadn't thought this through before committing to the purchase, which is a big problem with eBay. Three times my brother tried to sell his old car for spares/repair, and three times the person never paid or showed up. Politely reply explaining that the item is as described, and that if he had been unhappy he should've said at the time. You made the situation pretty clear, and he offered the money. Pretty sure he can't as it was unsold on ebay? They dealt with it outside ebay. Just delete the listing, job done.
george_seamons
Even better then! I take it he's not the guy who bidded £10? If its out of ebay, there is NOTHING he can do. Might be worth taking a screenshot of the auction and savinfg it somewhere, just incase he tries to play silly buggers.
Muel
the item was described as "spares or repair" AND the item was sold out of ebay for cash. Yeh, this is all that matters to be honest, f**k him.
Simpson
Yea sod him you've been brutally honest in the first place, if your parents were still using the oven daily you could have tried to fob it off as working but you didn't you said spares or repairs. Saying that he did seem to pay a fair wack for a "non working" oven, either offer him £50 or just be blunt and tell him where to stick it. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.
