Bossing Out Work - Thoughts / Ever Tried It

Righteo need thoughts/opinions on this.

Im an agency worker so i know inevitably at Christmastime my jobs over. Its got to the point where i need a car in my life, and want something decent (Civic).

Currently im on 7.50 p/h, no overtime bonus. so basically on the run up to Christmas i could be earning about 5k from now to then, but that means no social life what so ever.

Has anyone treid this? how did it go? ......

i have to pay 400pm for rent and whatnot.

So to weigh both options up:

Money but no life out of work and ill be tired (maybe? might get used to it idk)

No car / little dollar but a life.

If this is a pointless topic or what ever just say but its playing on my mind.

Troy.

My Dad has been working 11 hour days Mon-Fri and 6 hours on a Saturday for the last 3 years non stop, tis easy if you get into the routine. Main thing is to minimise the time it takes you between the alarm going off and clocking on.

I do it at uni during peak times, up at 6 and I can be in the library by 7.30 without rushing too much.

I'd say look further to the future - spend time finding your next job so that you don't end up having to spend the £5k you grafted for on living while you're between jobs rather than the car...

In the whole puffing chest thing, I worked for 3 months doing days in a supermarket and nights with a combat simulation company 6 days a week when I was younger. 20 hour days, but I had lots of drugs on my side, which are obviously bad and not condoned. My head wasn't straight after, that's for sure!

No social life for over 2 months will suck. most of us have been there, thrashing hours out and getting the 'reward' of working hard. Personally I'd rather reduce my outgoing than work more. I'm doing ~54hr weeks Monday to Friday and it is just shit. throw in 7+ hrs commuting over the week and it all goes pear shaped. I'm tired all week and tired on Monday from making the most of the weekend lol

Be careful what you wish for. jardo has in his usual blunt manner made a relevant point. Ignoring his usual behaviour of saying one thing then spanking money like there's no tomorrow instead :-P (I might just be jealous?) then he's right. be realistic what you can afford once the job is over/before the next one. people don't walk into employment these days.

He does 12 hour days now, 6 till 6. However his commuting time is about 2 mins. :P

If you really want something then saving up to get there quicker won't seem as bad as just saving for nothing and having no life.

I used to work 6 days a week so couldn't have as much of a social life as I'd have liked but wouldn't have been able to get all the nice things in life either.

Now on nights so no life at all during the week but more money also so that's fine with me.

Just try and do things on the cheap so u can still have a life at the weekends without boring yourself to death

12 hour shifts aren't bad if you can physically cope with it - if you're handling heavy machinery or production line processes then your and your colleagues lives could be at risk.

Additionally, your wanting a civic but working all hours to buy it - how to you plan to maintain, run, tax and insure this car?

Also, what the f**k does 'bossing out work' mean?

Working really hard and saving loads of money to buy something is THE most rewarding thing. That moment where you actually hand over your hard earned cash and take it away is AWESOME!!! I say go for it, if you really really want it.

Although, I would echo what everybody else is saying...how are you going to do all the other bits associated with driving if you're going to have to skrimp so much to buy it? Actually buying the car is normally the cheap bit!

Its still at 12 hour shift though, regardless of pay. He's AT work for 12 hours.

Alright Captain Pedantic... I thought the topic starter was on about working hours, which equal money? :P

He even did maths to show how much he'd earn in a given time period.

In my mind, people who love their work would do overtime to get a job done, and to see it completed. The decider wouldn't be the extra cash they'd earn. For you I'd say have a social life, and buy a cheaper car like a yaris.

Realistically though how many people have a job they love that much? Nothing wrong with being motivated by the money rather than the job.
