justin89
Hi. I have decided to get back into trials riding. I used to ride trials a few years ago on a 20" but have decided to give a 26" a go this time. Now my bike isn't a "trials" bike as such, I built it out of spares in my shed! But surely it will be okay to use to get back into it? Here's a couple of pics of my creation: It all seems a lot harder than it used to.. I'm not sure if that's down to the bike or me being older and more crippled! Anyways.. my first question for you all. What is a decent but cheap hydrolic front disc brake? I have a cable disc brake at the mo and it's crap! Thanks Justin
Jake.
Hey Justin, welcome back to trials! Firstly that frame is not what you want at all, sure you can do the basics on it but you wouldn't race a road bike in a mountain bike race. Just like you wouldn't use a jump bike frame/mtb for trials, sure they did it years ago but that was when they didn't have any other options so nowadays money is the only excuse. Your cheapest overall option would be to buy a full second hand bike for £300-£400. But you may be able to get away with just buying second hand frame and forks from here, for around 100-150. As for the disc... It looks like you need a bigger rotor. Edited October 12, 2012 by JMCD
justin89
Well to be honest the frame is the least of my worries at the mo.. I quite like the street/jump bike feel it still has, but with the bonus of being able to do trials on it too. I will probably buy a better frame when I have the money, but I'll go for something similar to the inspired frames as I like being able to ride both trails and street. Plus since the whole bike was built with spares from my shed and it's cost me nothing so far so I'm not complaining The front disc I have at the mo is a cable disc which is crap (doesn't even stop me!) so I'm after a decent hydraulic front disc.. so recommendations for a decent but reasonably cheap one please. I have no issue with second hand etc. Been looking at Magura Louise, Hayes Ryder, Hayes Stroker Trail, Avid Elixir.. any of them any good? Also I think a different stem with more of a rise might make a difference..? When I have the money I'll look into a different frame, but for now the one I've got will have to do. I went for a ride earlier (first proper ride I've done) and bar the front brake being rubbish and the realization I can't bunny hop as high as I used to be able to it was alright. I can still kick hop and do a few things I used to be able to so hopefully with some more practice I'll get better
