Gaz96
If I buy something from someone online (pink bike) and its faulty and after I contact him he does not reply, can I go to the police about it? Even of its not a registered trader and just a randomer

Luke Dunstan
I think it's a civil matter not a criminal one? I don't think the Police would do anything. Worth a try though, did you take his address?
trials hoe
i asked my bank about anykind of protection with banktransfers (as in can i get my cash back if it goes tits up) and the woman said it was basicly the same as putting cash in their hand, no chance of any comeback. i suppose if its faulty its technicaly fraud if he didn't tell you, police are shit at this kind of thing and taking him to court would cost more than what you'll get back..... unless you sent loads of cash his way Edited October 5, 2012 by trials hoe
Gaz96
I used an address finder online to locate it, he replie to my text when I said is this Adrian? And once I explained the situation he's not replying now, so what can I do if he still doesn't get in touch?
george_seamons
Ah, had it been PayPal you would have had some protection. You may well be shafted then, police probably won't want to get involved unfortunatly
Gaz96
Must be a crime though? It was for forks and was £95, nothing huge but I'm only 16 still at school don't have a big income so it's not like I can just forget and buy other forks, it's money I need back! Will I just be completely shafted?Read pinkbikes FAQ and in that they say the person posting ad is legally responsible so surely that gives me something to go to police with? george_seamons
You have nothing to lose by trying the police, but don't disappointed if they won't help, it is a civil matter at the end of the day. You might get lucky and get a helpful force though!
Luke Rainbird
In my opinion, people are often too hesitant to go to the police

Sam Nichols
I assume you've tried calling him from a number that isn't your own? Try that and if he answers make it clear that you are going to contact the police if he doesn't refund you. It MIGHT scare him into action.. Do you know his first and last names? I know his name is Adrian Dickenson, I think I have his address, I got a house number from one of his old adds on Pinkbike and used an address finder to get it and took that address, tried telling him the police were involved and if nothing was resolved in a week my local police would contact the Thatcham police but he never replied.
