godtrials
heyy any help would be appreciated... Im buying another (008) version Pashley and the threads on the magura mounts on the frame are shredded out ... Iv been told that heli coil wouldnt work because the mounts are too thin :/.. Do you reckon liquid metal / chemical metal would work??? Please HELP me in in need of the rear brake lol thanks Damien

Martin Reynolds
I've seen brake mounts stripped out, helicoiled, the helicoils stripped out, then helicoiled to m6.
AdamR28
Just pop a nut on the back PS: Bumping at 2am and after 1 hour usually doesn't get replies any faster
Laurence--Trials
I've stripped the threads on my frame I don't know what it's called but they're like little springs that clamp to te edge of the hole. They're really good easy to replace if need be and even easier to fit.
N.Wood
Think you mean helicoil
LEON
Just pop a nut on the back PS: Bumping at 2am and after 1 hour usually doesn't get replies any faster This, if I remember from my 26Ghz, you should be able to do this, steel frames tend to have the mounts welded on as a thin plate with room in the back for a bolt. Alu frames use the mounts like blocks, there's a lot more material to work with than on steel frames.
LEON
Actually scrap that. http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/176370-pashley-26ghz-resprayed/ Looking at it here, the 4 bolt mounts are made as a solid block like an alu frame, so the nut won't work, on the other hand there's a lot more material around the hole to get it helicoiled, get it helicoiled
isitafox
Hell, worst case cut the mounts off and weld some new ones back on
Martin Reynolds
Hell, worst case cut the mounts off and weld some new ones back on Or drill a hole straight through, and nut and bolt it
AdamR28
the 4 bolt mounts are made as a solid block like an alu frame Oh yeah! Very strange - my bad. Helicoil then.
LEON
The flimsy looking braze on mounts you can buy....that's what you usually get on a steel frame, old Megamo's etc. But pashley have built it like an alu frame! (Explains the weight) My advice, give it some long forks, it's tempting to use Pashleys but the frame will come alive with some forks around 405-410mm, keep the stem minimally stacked too. godtrials
thanks for all the help and mine is the flimsy thin steel mounts so cant heli coil and the bolt thing has been tried and just stripps the threads on the bolts too.. And dont ask about the bump i didnt realise the time lol
LEON
Got a pic? Is yours not the same as the standard mounts in that link? Because for a steel frame they're pretty heavy duty! There definitely should be enough material to work with a helicoil.
Revolver
You could even send the frame away to JAF bikes and ask Josh to stick some proper mounts on there. It'll work better if you're based in England, I can't tell because you haven't filled out the location thing. godtrials
these are the weak brake mounts and just dont no what to do lol
bing
they look like the Magura braze on mounts you get with a 4 bolt clamp kit, pm me your address I'll post you some brand new ones that you can get welded on somewhere. any fabrication place should be able to weld them on straight and in the same place for not much money. you can have them for nowt, they are just cluttering up my toolbox Edited September 30, 2012 by bing
LEON
That's weird, they should be like in the pic in my link, either you have an early model or someone's done that to it, no reason why a small bolt shouldn't go behind where your thread is. I've done it before.
godtrials
yeah i no its weird loland thanks for the offer mate but you would have to pay a postage fee because of how far apart we are and i might just get 2 jubilee clips to clamp them together to see if that would work lol Or could i get some liquid metal and pack it in there and put a bolt in there wait for it to dry and unscrew the bolt then ill have a thread for the magura bolts to go in
LEON
Have you tried an M5 nut? That should do it, new indestructible thread. Edited September 30, 2012 by LEON
godtrials
no iv been finding nuts lying around in my shed and filing them down so the fit in the gap.. does the bolts up and its fine but when i pulls the brake alittle bit the bolts shoot out lol :/
