Jon Alty
Hi, Bought myself a new Speedrace Fans frame not realising the snail cams were on the inside. Theres no space on the outside for snail cams, so they have to be run on the inside. Can I stretch out the chainstays and squeeze the snail cams in or is that just a poor bodge job? If not apart from modifying the hub (which i dont really want to do), is there anything I can do? Would like to keep the Pro 2, but if not I guess I'll need to run a FFW :\
Blake
hm, you could slam it in the dropouts and use a spoke tensioner? or use chain tugs?
Andeee
I run a pro2 on the rear with cams and its fine
Mikee
I have seen similar setups with people using just one snail cam on the driveside and levelling up the other side by hand. trials hoe
bending a frame is always going to be a bad idea, end caps aren't to expensive. whip 'em off and file them down. rather ruin some endcaps than a frame........ Revolver
Yeah, just find some end caps. You could buy/ask for more on here and keep the original set for if you change frames or sell the wheel.
Jon Alty
I run a pro2 on the rear with cams and its fine Is this just because the frame spacing allows you to fit them in or have you stretched the CS out slighty? Duncy H
I've had my speedrace fans frame for 2-3 years now, half of that time running a king hub. (Causes same scenario) and I have always used one cam on the drive side and adjusted by hand on the other. Never had a problem
bike_dummie
I run a pro2 on the rear with cams and its fine Aren't your cams on the outside in that picture? As said file/machine your caps down.
Jon Alty
Cheers for the replies guys, think I'll take the end caps in to uni and grind them down by the thickness of the cam. Thanks all!
Mikee
I would personally try what Duncy and I have suggested before you start modifying things.
Andeee
Frame spacing allows for cams to be ran on outside plus the pro2 bolts have a fair bit of thread on them. As for running inside i don't think it may be possible due to there been a few mil spacing between the lock ring of the hub and the dropout. I tend to come across the occasional problem where my chain goes slack even with the cams set at original tensioning position? ( Is this normal?) I know on the standard ozonys showed on tarty where it is running a screw on hub the cams appear to be on the inside.

Theres a recess in the frame on the outside which is too small for snail cams to go in, so it can't be done. I would personally try what Duncy and I have suggested before you start modifying things. New end caps can be bought for £10. I'd rather do it properly for the sake of 10 mins grinding
AdamR28
Personally would just run without cams.
Jon Alty
Personally would just run without cams. Tried this yesterday and my wheel was wonky as hell lol, setting up HS33s is a pain in the ass as it is, let alone when your wheel wont stay straight lol
Alex Dark
i use a KIng, with one snailcam on the driveside ( inside )

If you set it wonky, then it will be wonky. If you set it up straight, then it will be straight... (sorry, couldn't think of a better way to put that!) craigjames
I ran a CK when i got my first Hydroxx without snailcams, had no issues with wonkyness or it moving in the dropouts. Takes a little fiddling to get it all perfect, but it's not rocket science.
Mark W
If you go down the no-cam route, then the way you tighten the bolts up will be important. You need to tighten one a little, then the other a little, and so on rather than just beasting one up then doing the other. I recently had to run a setup where I was using horizontal dropouts with a Pro 2 without a chain tug/cam and it held in place fine. Just make sure you get grease on the bolt to help get it that bit tighter I know on the standard ozonys showed on tarty where it is running a screw on hub the cams appear to be on the inside. Yeah, most fixed hubs are 129mm, so you can then run 2 3mm snail cams to make it up to 135mm. Hopes are just 135mm though.
dave33
Drill a cleance hole in the snail cam just of centre near axle hole. Get longer bolts and bolt the cams on to the chain stay. Might need a counter sunk bolt for drive side You need to play about with the position of them then take the wheel out to do the drive side up. You can just use the non drive side to get the tenstion. Or just machine the hub
tdubz
I had a similar issue with a zhi frame. I ended up slamming back wheel into front of dropouts and making tensioner ot of a reflector bracket and jubilee clip
Mark W
Those brake clamps look like they're hating life.
N.Wood
I would be too if I had to look at that chain all the time.
tdubz
Clamps replaced and chain gone now haha It was a bodge of sorts to put it mildly but it gives him and idea of what he could do
hypermobilty
What's wrong with the chain?
