Kevinfor
Hello everyone. I was thinking of getting a front rim brake setup and i noticed the urbans have the mounts on the front of the legs and the trialtech ones are mounted on the back. Is there any pros or cons to either one? Thanks a lot. Kevin.
isitafox
Yup, when you apply the brake the wheel is effectively pushing or pulling on the brakes. With them mounted on the rear they push into the forks giving more resistance which technically should make them more effective at the risk of increasing the stress put into the forks which causes them to snap. trials hoe
brakes will work the same either side of the fork legs, same fittings and way they mount et all. would have thought reverse mount would be more resistant to cracking at the mounts with moves to front.......... Carlperkins
yup. but the likely hood of someone breaking urbans is very small.
Blake
yup. but the likely hood of someone breaking urbans is very small. Really? i'd say urbans are pretty easy to snap. . .
SamKidney
yup. but the likely hood of someone breaking urbans is very small. Ross C managed to crack his forward facing urbans in just shy of 4 months I think. Him and Ben L used to go through a good amount of them too. Blake
But reverse mounts for the win, look and (supposedly) work better.
SamKidney
They both have there pros and cons. Reverse: Pros; Generally better bite and hold, down to the way the pads are forced inwards with the rotation of the wheel. Look awesome. Cons: Will tend to crack/ snap easier on moves such as hooks or wodges. The mount adds as a stress riser, and with the way the fork flexes on such moves, this causes the fork to crack Forward mount: Pros: Generally quite quiet, tad more modulation (if you like that kinda thing) and more resistant to hook/wodge induced cracks Cons: Can have less hold than a reverse mount vee, the key word being CAN. (Mr. Pavel has proved you can get an epic front brake with such mounts) and will be more prone to cracking at the mount with moves to front. In short, theyre both going to crack sooner or later, and you should get a good brake on either. Ive gone front Vee though, so Im a winner anyway. Hooray for strong forks. dave33
Really? i'd say urbans are pretty easy to snap. . . Ye I had some before when trial tech were out of stock. Brakes shit and they lasted 2 months if that Trialtech last me 3/5 months and brakes alot better
Alex Dark
Trialtech seem pretty reasonable with rearward facing HS mounts. My Viz front facing only last about 9 months
J.KYDD
Rear facing - WIN Front facing - SHIT
Trials-Mikey
yup. but the likely hood of someone breaking urbans is very small. i broke urbans in two months they were fitted correctly and the snapped at the crown race swapped to trialtech sport forks and they are more stronger and both the forks had reverce fittings
