Blake
avid levers and arms, LGV pads or heatsink yellows in V backings with a linear slick cable is what most people choose to run you thinking front or back?
tdubz
Back. What brand (link would be great) of cable both inner and outer is best to use. All the other stuff i know where to get Thanks
Blake
Well for the back brake you will want a decent set up, sd7 arms are supposed to be pretty stiff so thos with an sd7 lever will rock. On my phone atm so let me just find a link EDIT: http://www.google.co.uk/m/products?source=mog&hl=en&gl=us&client=ms-rim&tab=wf&q=linear%20slic%20cable&sa=N Sorry if it's all american links but my phone is utter shite. But yeah those cables are meant to be ace Edited September 19, 2012 by DrStix
ghostrider88
Avid arms are not good, they develop lot of play in very short time.Shimano deore/xt arms are much better choice.Lever avid sd7 or sl. I found the rockpads to have the best hold with any type of grind, cousts are close second for the rear brake and lgms third because they stop to work if the rim isn´t in perfect condition(worn grind,dust...).And of course linear slic cable(brand doesn´t matter really) with teflon coated inner cable and all lubed nicely and you´re set. dann2707
SD7 lever (the red speed dial is amazing) Linear slik cable made an unreal difference to mine I use Shimano acera, really cheap from eBay! like £6 and they are so so much better than avid sd7 arms, the sd7 pins are made of cheese and just bend and snap off so easily. Most importantly make sure the pads are square to the rim like any other brake, they tend to come loose after a while so make sure they are kept straight. Everyone always commented on how savage my vee brake was on my mod.

hI-OOPS-CAPS
what sort of cost will a decent setup come to for the rear?
Ali C
Another vote for Shimano arms, I also highly recommend LGV pads, they are the best I've tried and they have the slimmest backings so you can get your arms closer to the tyre and more out of the way. Ali C
to be fair it wasn't the adaptor that broke on mine, just the post. However, I do find them VERY tall, which makes the whole brake set-up look like some sort of scaffolding. I liked the Neon ones I had, they didn't have as much adjustability as others, but they were fairly low profile and my brake worked pretty well with them. The best solution I have used though is to drill and tap the lower four bolt mount to take an M8 v post fitting.

Good you mentioned this, I´ve been thinking about this for the past few days, but one thing I´m not sure about is how did you secure the spring in position? Ali C
just cut a little bit of carbon (but you could use anything hard) and drilled one 8mm hole to go under the v post and one small 3mm hole for the spring to go in.
