Mindset For A Comp Rider

Doesn't really matter, some comps you can change route after riding like 3 sections. All comps you should be able to change once you've walked the sections. Enter red and see what happens. Also, 'red' doesn't really mean anything as difficulty varies between nationals / regional / european rounds so a yellow in the uk can be like a red european section.

If you're only doing it for the results you're doing it wrong.

what do you do it for then? you wouldn't enter a comp to lose it would you? surely you enter wanting to get the best result you can get. thats my reason for doing it. talking about it to you lot has helped me though, now I have a few people's different takes on it

To have a bit of a laugh, to mix it up a little, to catch up with old friends, to make new ones to ride some different spots, to get an idea of how you perform under different circumstances, to try and beat your previous attempts...

Or is riding for fun no longer the name of the game?

Edit; Don't get me wrong, it's nice to do well and get a sense of achievement or whatever, but that's a tiny part of the bigger picture that you seem to be missing.

Dont ride for the result. Ride for fun. A good result its a bonus!

Im not sure on what to do when it comes to comps. Ive never ridden one, and Im not sure which routes are for me.

I do ride natural, and Im not out of my comfort zone when I do it. Its choosing which is right for me.

Ross reckons I could do red, but Ive no clue :(

could easily do red if you put the practise in samo

I probably set you off by letting you down mate :(

I had a pretty crappy weekend, just felt tired and rough and still feel wank now which is why I didn't bother going. I knew that if I didn't go I would be out of the running at winning senior overall but I didn't want to go and ride and probably do really badly just for the sake of maybe bagging a trophy at the end of the year. I ride for fun and to catch up with guys like you and some of the welsh crew and the devon/cornwall massive who I never get a chance to ride and hang out with otherwise. Doing well is just a bonus which gives me confidence, I rode blue for a couple of trials the 2 years previous to this and did awful every time but I've stuck at it. Still manage some really shocking 5's on the easy stuff but it be reet.
