MadManMike
Bonjour, Over a month ago I changed my address online and signed up to Broadband. At the time, it said all done and an engineer will come out to sort it out for you. The waiting list for my area was a month - no worries I thought, I can handle that. Anyway, appointment was last Friday, I waited in and didn't listen to any music or watch TV to make sure I'd hear the doorbell. Appointment slot came and went, no call. Went downstairs to go out and there's a card on the floor saying someone called but couldn't get an answer. I complained and the lady told me he called my mobile which went straight to answer phone - I responded with "Why not try the doorbell like every other visitor?". So, to cut a long story short, they've now said next appointment is 26th October, which will mean almost a 3 month wait to get connected. When I think about it, I don't even think an engineer needs to come out - my g/f was using BT Vision before I moved in, so the line is there and it works, I think it just needs activating / switching on. Can anyone confirm this? I think they've not recognised the address and therefore assume there's no line as everyone I've spoken to has said an engineer needs to come out and install one. They don't seem to be able to grasp what I'm saying - it really is a "computer says no" scenario. Help me please!!!
AdamR28
I reckon they can do everything remotely, but the like to send engineers out so they can pull your pants down for 'installation fees'. Horrible, horrible company.
Matthew62
Yeah I ditched BT as soon as I could. When I moved they we're arses. They'd decided to cancel the line before I moved in, and as I needed it connecting were going to charge me, I think it was something like £140. I obviously said there was no chance of paying and asked why it had been disconnected. Her exact response was: "Sir I am not obliged to respond to that question and do not need to provide a reason". Well wasn't that a big f**kyou to me.... I then naturally stated that our relationship together has run its course and that I was looking for someone new. She then told me I had to pay a cancellation fee. I promptly explained to her that she had inadvertently pretty much created a sort of paradoxical situation. I had to pay to stay, but I also had to pay to leave. She didn't sympathise. I took her name and direct number..... 20 mins later after ringing o2 who set me up with no connection fee, cheaper line rental and cheap broadband I rang the girl at BT back and said I was definitely off. She asked why, I told her of my new setup and they couldn't match. In a last minute attempt she offered to waver the connection fee if I made £10's worth of landline calls a month.... I asked what sort of shit that was, and that i'd never heard such a ridiculous offer, to which she made her last, most premium off for these 'delicate situations'. It was a £40 connection fee with 8mb internet with a 10gb download limit, line rental at about £14 and broadband at £27. I said o2 for £22 a month are giving line rental with evening and weekend free calls, 20mb internet with no download limit and no connection fee. She asked me which off her 2 offers I was going with. I said 'neither' to which she again said there'd be a cancellation fee. I told her to do one and never bill me again. 5 mins later, cancelled direct debit with bank and never heard from them again. They do appear to be shite.
Martin Reynolds
From everything i've heard about BT, its a real marmite thing. Some people swear by them and have no issues, yet other times they treat people like absolute c**ts!
Muel
I hate them more than I hate girls between the ages of 12 and 15. I moved to O2. I'm not going anywhere now!
tomturd
Mike, are you on twitter? Complaining on twitter seems to be a good way to get some big companies attention.
anzo
Speak to BT frequently though work; generally I tend to find them completely useless. However, the actual engineers are worlds apart (actual BT engineers, not contractors) those guys are seriously good - in my experience anyway. ManxTrialSpaz
i don't work for BT but do work for a company that provides and maintains landline connections. AFAIK with us, an engineer visit for new connections is only required to fit a new/upgraded socket or to verify the integrity of the line for connections that have been inactive for an extended period. Otherwise, all the connection work is off site. If you can really still be bothered, ring BT again tell them the line was active recently. If you know what it was, tell them what the phone number your gf was using as well, it may help them see your property from their end. Horrible, horrible company. Not in this case though bud - free installation, free equipment... they stand to gain nothing by sending someone, just a pissed off customer! Mike, are you on twitter? I'll do it at home on my interne oh wait. i don't work for BT but do work for a company that provides and maintains landline connections. Tried that mate, they weren't listening - just kept saying "I've looked on my technology checker and it says you need a new line". No matter what I said he wasn't listening to what I was actually saying. A truly ridiculous company.

JD™
Or you could just ask them if you can be unblocked temporarily during a lunch break or something... I take it you haven't got a phone that is capable of signing up?
