SamKidney
Having a little issue with my chain length on my 24", Im thinking its my tyre thats the problem. In order to run my wheel without the tyre catching the end of the top tube, I have to run one half link. No problem I thought, I'll wait until the chain stretches a little. I hate running half links, make a little bit of paranoia kick in, and when I went to try remove it, the tyre is still hitting the top tube with the chain set how its meant to be. Has anyone else had this issue with their Fat Albert and chain length? Im thinking maybe its because it is a very large tyre, and I'll have to wait until the tread wears a tad before it stops catching. Im running 18-14 gearing, I assume thats standard? CalopS
cut down the tread a bit?
aener
You've hardly been riding it long... [Edit: New] chains stretch pretty quick, but not that quick. To be brutally honest, as inadvisable as half-links are, people do make them out to be worse than they really should. You'll be fine running it until the chain stretches enough. If it's that far down, can you not put the extra link in? (Take half link out and add a full link.) Edited August 30, 2012 by aener
SamKidney
With the half link the hub is the furthest out in the dropout it can be ran. I suppose I'll just run it.
Jake.
18-14 is fine. My tyre rubs sometimes, just let it down a little bit that helps for me. Last resort is to cut the 'tail' that it rubs onto, off.
narrowbars
For the three ride's I used that tyre I didn't need a half link and no rubbing issues? Once your chain stretches a bit you'll be fine
SamKidney
Dont fancy cutting my frame Like I said, I'll run it with the half link for now until it stretches.

Azarathal
With my wheel slammed in the dropouts (spoke tensioner) I have enough clearance for my fat albert and a vee, is your tyre seated properly?
SamKidney
Definately seated properly. Are Schwalbe tyres hand made like Contis? Maybe mines a tad larger than stated. Im running a V!Z rim if that makes a difference? Being wider than a TR.. Edited September 1, 2012 by Echo Lite
Azarathal
Being wider might have something to do with it but mines a good inch at least away. Try a spoke tensioner? Position it so it doesn't rub and you can set the brakes up then use a spoke to tension. I've done it because I cba getting the tensioners even or adjusting it as the chain wears
SamKidney
An inch! Mines running on the end of the dropouts and Ive got half an inch, if that. Sounds like my tyre is Mahooosive compared to others. All the factors are pointing to the tyre at the minute. Wheel all the way back, brake clamps the same.. Just going to get a high roller on there soon.
