Thinking About Starting Trials.

Got some money to spare, was planning on spending it on my BMX as i could do with some new wheels, sprocket, brake etc.. but now im considering getting a trials bike. I have found 2 on Ebay that i like the look of, admittedly they are nothing special but as im only a beginner i don't need to splash out hundreds on something that's more than likely going to take a beating.

I know nothing about trials bikes, what the good well known brands are nothing so i require some assistants from you guys. Please take a look below and the bikes and tell me what you think about em.

you have the right idea about not splashing out on money because one the bike is going to have to take some abuse and you may find that you dont like the sport which would then mean it was a waste but anyway in my opinion the mission is definite no because they weigh a absolute ton are unreliable and in general not a very nice bike. Your second link to the ultra lightweight onza t-vee seems pretty decent, onza t-vee's are usually fairly light and have an alright feel to them just i would suggest ivor getting an adapter to upgrade the brakes or using tar on the rims becouse vee brakes arent always up to standard and give way quite easily. and the only other thing is be careful on the cranks because running a square taper bottom bracket usual results in it rounding but apart from that i would say the onza is clearly the better choice.

Welcome to trials-forum and trials as a sport

Good luck! :)

How much money have you got to spend? I'll not say that either of those wouldn't be good for a beginner because they would if you pay the right price (I'm thinking £100 max) but you could probably get a far better bike to learn on for not much more money.

A little steep for the bike in my opinion. I mean its good for a beginner. Have a look for parts and build one if your competent at building bikes. I got a megamo as my first trials bike. Old frame but was high end back in its day. Picked up the frame forks bars cranks bb and brake cheap on ebay got some decent wheels & tyres off here, new freewheel and a couple of spares i had knocking about and boom, half decent trials bike with a decent spec on the important parts i.e rear wheel & freewheel & brakepads, + fresh brake bleed. I got it all for about 130-150, then slowly upgraded it.

I think most people don't stick at trials because their bike's haven't been set up well enough to do the moves needed?

Best way of getting a working trials bike, it cuts out the idiot owned trials bikes. Although this is coming from someone who manged to buy a mod frame with random holes drilled in it... :P

That's my "opinion" anyway :)
