ULtrialsguy
Not sure if this has already been discussed elsewhere but has anyone tried floating rotors for trials? I have them on my full susser and thinking of getting one for the front of my trials bike. Only because of the fact they're coloured and look awesome. So are they tough enough or should I stay away? Jake.
No point, it's designed to help with the heat dissipation I believe.
onza pro series guy
^This, but there is also more flex in a floating rotor
aener
They snap. Usually on big front-gaps when you really don't want them to

Ali C
I use Shimano XT rotors which have an alloy centre, they only come in black so might not appeal to you, but they are plenty strong enough for trials, the older Hope ones were strong enough (and not flexy like some people say) though they may have changed them slightly since I last used them to make them lighter. so yeah, if you want floating rotors, go Shimano
onza pro series guy
I use Shimano XT rotors Just out of interest are you running shimano hubs as well Ali or are they 6-bolt mounted rotors?
Ali C
they are the 6-bolt versions
BradJohnson
What about these, http://www.ebay.co.u...=item231c8af9fe I had them on an old bike, they where great, check the sellers other items for more colours and sizes.

ULtrialsguy
These look great, one piece as well. But look pretty spindly, might snap under heavy trials use. Saying that I'm not doing huge moves, particularly with the front brake. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Alligator-Aries-RED-Disc-Brake-Rotor-c96g-180mm-/400300585625?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item5d33c63299#ht_585wt_1037
Ali C
that's just painted steel, strength would be fine
ULtrialsguy
Those disks are 96 grammes compared to my echo disk which is 141 grammes.
Ali C
that's what happens when you use less steel

Ali C
I thought they might be harder to bend as the alloy centre should be stiffer, so far so good.
Miss-Higgy
Joining the convo late, paint your own rotor get the nail polish out or model paint
monkeymoped
i've got them on my 4x race bike and my d/h race bike and no flex at all and they don't get nearly half as hot thus leeding to longer pad life in my opinnion and i've just ordered a hope one for my trials bike as the hayes normal rotor on the front was mr flexy and not coping with the strain i was putting on it and as i said before if they can cope dh and 4x crashes they can cope with anything so i'm all for floating rotors Edited August 21, 2012 by monkeymoped
tigriss
I had a louise one (http://csimg.webmarchand.com/srv/FR/28012574368/T/340x340/C/FFFFFF/url/disque-de-freins-magura.jpg) on my mod and it used to be really great. Now if you want it just for the color just buy paint ! you sand down it a bit in the place you want it painted and then you can spray it, it's very easy and the paint leaves at the first braking so it's not a problem if you paint the whole disk.
