I used to. Quit in Feb cos it was managed shit. Are you full time or part time? Either way you have personal sales targets, they always set something higher than possible. You're the mechanic so you'll probably be busy fixing bikes than dealing with customers. Then if you don't hit those targets you get some sort of warning, then if you don't improve you get some sort of disciplinary crap.

Also the staff discount is only 15%, when I worked full time I never even got my staff discount card in the 5 months I worked there. Some of the shitty Apollo bikes will drive you nuts, some are so poop parts are broken out of the box.

I worked there for 4 years through college and Uni. Management started going steadily down hill in the last year or so, as did the quality of the bikes. I hope you get a decent store, and a decent manager, as it's the people who will make the difference between it being awful, bearable or actually quite fun. Since I left in January, the quite large store I worked at has only 1 or 2 members of full time staff who haven't quit, and they're looking for new jobs, upper management really have done a great job of destroying the company recently. Quite frankly I hope they go under, as getting away with running a store that badly would be a joke. That said, it would suck if the few people I still know who work there lost their jobs.

i work there as a part time bike mechanic, do alot of sales though as we are a concept store so a little different, but yeah. prepare yourself for all the shit bikes that come in and the lack of equipment required to repair them. on the plus side though when a good bike does come in youll have fun and appreciate it alot more

There prices seem to be a bit steep for the most simplest of jobs. LBS where i work we don't even charge that much compared to the likes of them.

Unfortunately yeah, that is spot on. 3 years ago in the store I worked at, at least half the bike-hut staff were properly into riding, and really knew their stuff. As a result the local riding community actually considered halfords as a viable alternative if the usual LBS was shut on a sunday, an evening or a bank holiday. Now though the increasingly poor contracts, and higher expectations of their staff, for no gain has pushed out all the skilled staff, leaving it run by people who really can't get jobs else ware or are fresh out of school.

Like I said Brad, I hope you get a decent store with some good colleagues, because that's what makes it. There was a few years there I found really enjoyable thanks to working with decent guys.
