hypermobilty
im picking up my bike tomorrow and im thinking of drilling and putting a light grind on the rear rim just wondering if any rim can be drilled and grinded?
Jake.
Yes you can, don't do it along the join in the rim and try keep the holes evenly apart; one on the side of each spoke maybe? Harmertrials drilled his rim and saved like 5 grammes but the outcome looked pretty cool. Any rim can be drilled, other than super light rims which will basically snap if you drill them. And any rim can be grinded too.

Jake.
What rims will you be drilling? Most people don't do it unless they go for looks or do comps.
hypermobilty
to be honest im not sure on the rim yet lol it will be purely for looks i might look at doing some comps in the future but i think i have some way to go before im ready for them lol
isitafox
If you haven't already got the rim then just buy one with holes already in

hypermobilty
its very simular to that one but different wheels and brakes i think
ULtrialsguy
Now that you've mentioned it, I feel like drilling my rim as well. I've got ronnie and reggie rims, although only using one right now, can't remember which. They're really tough but weigh a ton. Shedding a few grammes could help. Prob not much though. chris_trials
Drilling your rims is probably on of the greatest risks you can take with your wheels, unless you have wide, undrilled rims I wouldn't recommend it. If, however, you do drill your rims only drill small holes evenly spaced between the spokes. On the subject of rim grinds, any rim can be ground as long as it accepts a rim brake. If you decide to grind your rim you'll also need to upgrade your brake pads, personally I use TNN LGM's and heatsink blue's. It's all personal preference and you will work out what feels best for you in time
Jake.
Saw a pic of your bike in another thread. Don't bother. Looks like it has curved rims too? Not flat ones like most trials-specific rims.
trials hoe
buy some step drills and go sick
ULtrialsguy
My rim is undrilled and super wide and tough. Compared to most rims for sale, any holes I drill would be pretty small. Biggest bit I have is 10mm I think I could probably get away with it. As for pic above, thats some serious amount of holes. Looks sick and I don't think that would weaken it too much.
