ClarkeHutchison
Hi i have recently picked up a shoulder injury since riding my new 24" echo trial. I'm around 5ft 10. I am using a stem with 165 by 35 rise, i was just wondering if this long stem with high rise is the cause of my injury due to stretching. I was thinking about getting a stem with 150 by 30 rise maybe with some spacers, is this a good plan ? It might just be a one off injury but i never had this problem with other smaller stems. If anyone else has had this problem please let me know what you did to solve it because i want to get back out on my bike. Thanks
craigjames
Doubt it's the stem. I'm only 5'8 and ran a 150x30 with a 10mm stacker and it was fine. What bike were you riding before? Because it takes a while to get use to a 24" the techniques used are a little different and the bike behaves a bit differently to mods and stocks. ClarkeHutchison
I was riding a mod before, it probably is just getting used to it that helps, thanks
SunnyBoy
Warm your shoulder muscles up properly before going for any big moves that put a lot of strain on joints / muscles. I've had tendonitis in my shoulder for a bit so I just do a few simple exercises with small dumbbells before I go riding and it's helped loads. omgnoseat
Post a picture of you on the bike in trackstand and rear wheel position. It could be a very small thing, I once messed up my wrist because my brake lever was pointing too far up. But it's hard to guess without seeing your stance and bike setup. This could easily be solved by taking my onza from my hands and returning your echo
ClarkeHutchison
I moved around my levers and handlebars and I put a 150 by 30 stem on this seems to have solved my injury problem. Thanks everyone for the info. Edited August 18, 2012 by ClarkeHutchison
