Can A Headphone Jack Damage Headphones?

Title says it all actually.

Can a headphone jack damage a pair of headphones?

The jack might possibly be damaged, but I'm not quite sure. lol

At anyrate I've had a pair of Munitio 9mm earphones where the left ear piece suddenly only was half as loud as the other. I sent them in and got a new pair today. Left side seems to have less bass. (not by much though!)

I specially didn't plug it straight into my ipod (that definately HAS a broken jack..) but took them over the stereo. However I also tried them on my phone, where the sound was totally disorted (only sounds fine with the bad ones that came with it, and that pair of earphones sound terrible on everything else.)

Now I'm wondering if my phone might actually be damaging my earphones everytime?

yes, I know that I could not explain this more complicated, but if you simply answer the first question it'd help enough I guess. lol

Have you tried turning/moving the actual jack when plugged in?

I know when i have my headphones in on my electric drum kit which is some senheissers little jack going into a push in adaptor to convert to big jack for the kits connection, When ever i move it seems to occasionally sound distorted/panning to one side.

Also i occasionally get it when having my iPod plugged into the aux unit on my cars headunit.

How i see it i think some headphones jacks seem to be poor quality for sitting in plugs/adaptors which give of a poor signal response. Where as on a set of industry standard dt150 headphones the small jack for them is a screw on type which makes it more secure for going to big jack.

Is it maybe worth taking a visit to a local music tech shop n speak to a technician who repairs audio cables/speakers etc. I went to one once and got a custom cable made up for my home studio for some of my gear as the guy seemed to know loadssss.

If not buy new headphones?

Andy

Sorry if i have baffled on lol.

EDIT: @Simpson that sounds about right lol. May have to get a really small cotton bud to clean out the input

I tried turning a little bit. really not much as I think that's how my ipod jack broke^^ ..too much movement on my bike and such..

and I can't really be bothered buying new ones, as these actually are my birthday present (from winter, and I hardly could use them :() and they actually are pretty high quality..

at anyrate I'll have to try them on lots of different stereos etc..

What I do know is that if you drop your phone into a tin of paint THAT f**ks the headphone jack massively when it dries.

Sure you aint just got some dirt stuck in there?

Don't know about that. It's been bad since I've got the phone but I seldom use it anyways..

Though I do know that I didn't drop my phone into a tin of paint!

at that price i would have bought dr. dre beats!

what phone do you have? have you used the sound enhancer as you can alter all the settings on there, maybe you or someone else has messed around on that? i doubt you could ever brake an input by simply twisting the input around inside it, if there is dust/dirt sown there it will move it around a bit and possibly free it giving you your quality back.

i found tissue is bad for getting down there so stick a light down it and check it out :P
