dann2707
Basically if you are building up your bike or maintaining it what sort of stuff do you do that you think others might not think of? I have a basic one where if you are putting the innertube back in the tyre and your wheel make sure you put the valve cap on a few turns even whilst the tube is flat just so you don't lose the valve when putting it all back in, saves time! Everyone probably knows that. Anyone have any ?

CalRobbo341
Put say where it says 'Try-All' on the tyre side wall, next to the valve, so say for instance it is pitch black you will be able to find it quickly, and it looks neater.

bing
Don't be a cunt and over-tighten everything like so many people on here seem to do. +1. stripping of threads is caused by operator error/gashness. you can't blame shite Chinese monkey shit ally if you have swung on the Allen key like a numpty. Mark W
I find not buying shit parts that aren't suited to my style of riding helps most with making maintenance nice and easy
eskimo
Anything drivechain, buy all together. Pedals, cranks, bb, chain, sprockets. Fresh threads and press fitments all new just screams lushness. Also never remove any of them.
BradJohnson
Make sure you tighten eveything (But not over tight) Make sure everything goes in straight, so so nothings cross threaded (start finger tight, cause if it feels hard to get in with a spanner/allen key, then somethings wrong) Check all the threads and bolts before putting them in. Grease bearings, Lube chain, Dry it after cleaning so nothing rusts, Use all the correct tools (don't try and tighten a bb with a hammer and screwdriver like some people do) Check for cracks Keep your eye on dents if something doesn't sound right, check it out Don't be afraid to ask for help if your unsure. wind your tpa out before setting up 05 magura's cause you'll strip the threads if you use it to help set the brake up, Don't put anything on your bike with halfords or clarks wrote on it. eskimo
if in doubt use a hammer !! This of course is also advised if things don't work out. Throwing the bike across the room/ garage/ shed also helps considerably.
Blake
If you find a hole, give it a patch. Makes the bike ride so much nicer!!

No-one likes stripped pedal threads

LEON
Always spray your disk/s with a good coating of GT85. I find WD40 works slightly better.
Endohopper
When building a wheel using Mavic D521 rims ( yeah - that's how I roll ) don't allow a spoke nipple to fall into it's cavity irretrievably in such a way that it's tiny rattle with every revolution of the wheel is a reminder of your dumb assed ineptitude . ogre
Don't put anything on your bike with halfords or clarks wrote on it. f**k off, i use halfords vee brake calipers and cables to great effect, and their own brand CNC pedals are good value too. keep your rims true! a little adjustment from time to time will massively prolong their life and reduce pad wear let someone else who knows how a bike should feel ride your bike from time to time, you will get used to faults that could become problems, they will notice something wrong buy decent quality tools research any jobs you aren't confident about keep brake lever bolts a little loose so the brakes can spin.
