davidbarr
Just set it up perfectly without the TPA. I also found that when I used the TPA, if the rim moves over slightly and hits one of the pads, it can push the piston in which results in the other piston moving out. Save yourself the hassle. SamKidney
Always set it up without TPA. I dont need to do this any more, but when I was getting used to setting them up, I used 3 credit cards or something equivalent to them, held them against the rim in front of the pad, pushed the slave in so the pad sandwiched the cards against the rim, made sure the pad was lined up within the rim sidewalls, and nipped up the bolts. Perfectly set brake. You sort of just get the knack of doing it after a few goes at it.
trialsiain
but the lever pulls far in with no tpa
davidbarr
Set the pads up closer to the rim. If the lever is pulling in but the pistons aren't moving it needs bled.
SamKidney
Sounds like it needs bleeding to me then if it comes in too far with no tpa and set properly

trialsiain
there very close just now
SamKidney
Definately needs bleeding if it comes to the bar if the pads are set close. Maybe set the pads on the rim, and then check the lever feel. If its solid and you cant pull it much (there would be a little give with frame flex) then it doesnt need bleeding. If it comes in half way with no excessive frame flex and a spongy feel then it needs bleeding.
trialsiain
oyea thats another question.. my brake on echo 24 is quite flexy well the frame is and could it crack frame ?
SamKidney
Over a period of time it may, but not any time soon I'd say. If you think it feels too flexy, whack a booster on there. Boosters are nothing but good in my opinion. Better brake feel, more hold and prolongs the life of your frame.
trialsiain
what pads make noise with booster on

AlexOrangeZero
get new ones.aluminium knob. if theyre soft then, bleed. why would they jam though? I've never touched them. seems strange for them to go kaput
A.Baxter
why would they jam though? I've never touched them. seems strange for them to go kaput it just happens mate, cos they are only plastic threaded the standard magura red ones. So over time the threads just break and the tap is then effectively wound all the way to minimum. So get the new aluminium ones as already said and then they shouldn't be soft because the tap won't have to be on min, should probs re set your pads too. Adam.
