Sorry to throw the preverbial spanner in the circle-jerk*, but isn't this thread about as useful and retarded as 'The Happy Thread' was? With the exception of the OP, nobody is really going to read more than the one or two posts above their own.

I felt compelled to voice my disatisfaction on this matter because it seems that these days, something good is only worth seeing/doing/happening if you can tell everybody about it. Doesn't anybody do anything just for their own satisfaction anymore? The videos, bike pictures, etc, they're good because they're interesting. But does anyone here seriously care if some other f'cker managed to hop up a couple of pallets this morning? Because I f'cking don't.

*actually I'm not sorry at all

This topic is helpful for riders to show others their improvements and to recognise themselves how much they are getting better. Members who are learning will read others improvements/successes and this will give them confidence and belief that they can do the same. Others might take it as a challenge and try to do one better than another member e.g. sidehop an inch higher.

It's also good to see new riders sticking with the sport even if it is hopping up a couple of pallets, instead of giving up altogether

But this is the problem: why do so many people require reassurance from the external environment that what they're doing is ok? Why can't people just set their own objectives and be happy with acheiving them?

And if people give up altogether, then perhaps they weren't cut out for it in the first place?

Because little Timmy might manage to hop up 2 pallets and then think "That's not much of an achievement, not worth telling any one about." Then he looks on here and sees that Joe did the same thing, but Joe told people about it and every one was like "Woah Joe that's freaking awesome mann!!" Then Timmy can think to him self "Actually, I am pretty proud of what I accomplished today, I am definitely going to keep riding trials."

Called encouragement. Things are fun when you're with other people because human's are social animals.

I have read all these posts and not posted in it as of yet, I was enjoying reading everyone's achievements until you're negative crappy voice poked up to put everyone down.

So kindly be quiet and don't be a party pooper.

Not sure about you but when I'm out riding and I manage a new move and someone applauses me or says that was awesome its such an awesome feeling.

This is the same thing. Have a larf!

So you're saying that rather than always aspiring to do better, we should notice other people at the same standard as ourselves and then suddenly become content? You see, if I was shit at riding, I wouldn't feel any better about being shit if tons of other people were shit. Likewise, if people think I'm shit at riding, it makes no difference, because I do it 100% for my own enjoyment. Looking around at others isn't always a good way to judge whether something is acceptable or not. That's why people think it's ok to dress like hipsters.

@dan2707: No. This discussion is far more interesting than the previous 2 pages, so let's keep going...

Christ. I don't ride 100% for my own satisfaction. I ride with a bunch of f**king amazing people, if I were to ride on my own for me it would get boring fast.

Like the other day I'd like to think I helped bing a bit with his pedal kicks, that wasn't for me. In anyway. It's all part of trials.

Suppose its just what you take out of trials. But I know full well I'm in it much more for the social aspect side of it than the riding. Meh whatever there's always one :)

'Tony' has a point... If you get your kicks from riding with other people then great - that's the best part of riding as far as I'm concerned - but if you already get those accolades in person why be selfish and want them here too?

Personally, my ego is big enough already without having to have other people masturbate it on a forum.

If it wasn't for all the awesome dudes I get to pedal with I wouldn't ride anymore.

I'd still ride bikes, but not trials.

Oh yeah, and it IS ok for people to dress like hipsters, they get their kicks out of looking like bell ends but they're just emulating something they saw someone else doing and thought was cool.

In the same way you started trials. I'd put money on the fact you saw someone riding a trials bike once and thought 'that's cool, I want to do that'

No. A person may do something and think it isn't much, and not get much motivation from it to keep going and keep improving. By seeing that someone else has done the same thing and been applauded for it, it helps them to see that any progress as small as it may be, is good progress. This would then give them more motivation and increase their enjoyment of trials riding. Being content and making a conscious decision not to try and improve is different to taking more satisfaction from what you have achieved so far than you might otherwise have done.

You see, if I was shit at riding, I wouldn't feel any better about being shit if tons of other people were shit. Likewise, if people think I'm shit at riding, it makes no difference, because I do it 100% for my own enjoyment.

It depends how you get your enjoyment I suppose. Whether it's from others saying that you are good or from self praise, if it keeps you happy then good.

Looking around at others isn't always a good way to judge whether something is acceptable or not. That's why people think it's ok to dress like hipsters.

Ok, thanks for that.

@tony Harrison

not all of us(me) may be as naturally gifted at trials as you, and sometimes a bit of 'well done' or that looked sick' or ' I can't do that' does help a rider to progress. it's a mindset thing.

to all the arrogant twats out there

people respond much better to niceness rather than someone being a retard and having a dig. try being nice and using a bit of humility, cos if I didn't ride with good people, I probably wouldn't ride at all. then we would have lost another rider due to the knobbiness of the minority
