Kieran Morrison
I go to the edge of where I'm taking off and I find taking a huge preload helps. Go at an angle aswell. Might want to type it into the search bar, I did recently and found a few topics with different things to try if what I said doesn't suit you

dngr2self
Practice gapping up. It'll help you get used to tucking the back wheel up.
Jake.
Get a video of yourself gapping your biggest gap, then we can try spot the little things that are hard to describe and then tell you what to improve on or change in technique. Kieran Morrison
Can't really see how sideways you're going in the video, but from the angle its videod at you definitely need to go more side on. You're taking off from a nice position on the pallet, not too far on the edge and not too far back so if you're comfortable then that seems fine. Maybe try smaller hops/less hops to get you to where you want to take off from, and pre-loading some more will help you aswell Edited July 19, 2012 by Kieran Morrison
trialsiain
ok cheers i usually dont hop at all hardly unless i need to it was just because the pallet i was on is missing bottom wooden bit and is really springy
ghostrider88
Need to preload much much more.
dann2707
More preload, you look like you're not even trying to get far. Also maybe try go at an angle, I can't hop for shit straight on, really need to go at an angle to get the most power (for me)

Sponge
In a loose-ish way it's similar to how some long-jumpers taken off right at the edge and throw themselves forward but with a noticable upward force- that little bit extra air just gives more time to travel horizontally- often down with a slightly angled takeoff. Gapping really begins to feel fluent when you get the hang of taking off at a slight angle (rear foot facing the gap). It just feels like you have extra room to lunge- forwards but upwards at the same time. You'll see a lot of good riders slightly tweaking in midair 'cos it allows you to exert more power into the gap.
