Echo Trial 24 Vs Neon Bow 24

so i am going to buy a 24" trials bike, i will have the money saved up in about 5-6 weeks, i was looking at the neon bow 24 that just recently came out and the echo trial 2011 24", and i cant make my mind up to which one to order, i see that the neon bow is more expensive etc i like the dual hs33, high stem, high bottom bracket etc, the brakes on the echo are concerning me, as all of you probably heard there have been leaks in the levers,

so my question is, which one would you recommend?

cheers

The Echo brakes leak due to poor duster seals, you can easily stop that from happening by stretching the finger off a rubber glove over the master cylinder. The slave disc callipers now come with hard anodized pistons, that also helps keep it leak-free.

Personally I'd be slightly weary of the Neon because it's not a hugely stiff frame. There are a few people on this forum who have owned the new Bow in 26/20 inch, should be able to help you with the stiffness aspect of these frames.

ive got a echo 24 inch but when i bought it i changed the fork tyres stem bars and brakes to get it exactly how i wanted it

i think the neon bow already has these "upgrades".

how much have you spent altogether with the upgrades, and what forks tyres stem bars and brakes were they?

I have no experience of the new Neon 24. But I own the 2011 26. I don't really ride any street, I prefer more technical natural stuff. I'm more than happy with my Neon. It handles well, is light (8.8kg) and I have personally not had any issues with flex. Although I run a trialtech booster on the rear.

I know a few people on here will say they snap etc But few trials bikes won't if they are thrashed on the street, especially when put through the same move repeatedly.

I would have liked a slightly higher BB rise on my neon, (my avatar will give you a clue of how I like to ride!!) but the 24 has a high BB anyhow. I'm tempted by the Neon 24 myself.

I'd be inclined to go for the neon if I were you. They're very nice looking frames. I can vouch for the 26" frames at least, in terms of not feeling horribly flexy. Feel nice and responsive.

Id say the 24" would be stiffer, with shorter chain/steat stays. Its just a bike that could be ridden without upgrades out of the box. Very very nice spec.

Im not a fan of the complete Echo 24" builds. I'd choose the new 24" Echo SL if I wanted an Echo complete, purely because it comes with Urban forks as standard and SL bars, which have a nicer feel to them over the TR's found on the original Echo 24".

Go Neon.

If you get the echo... Change the brakes, bars, stems, forks then it'll be a good setup. Will probably add up to the same price as the neon by the time you're done doing it up, would be miles better though.

Oh shit, my bad haha.

My point was supposed to be, the neon also has disc mounts so that could work in it's favour if you don't like maggys.

Hmm true. Maggies seem to be best on anything bigger than 20" (from what I've experienced anyway). Doesn't feel like Discs bite as well compared to maggies on bigger wheels?

Nothing better than dual magura's/ vee's on bigger wheels.

I think front disc on a stock feels poo with the added spoke flex.

Not tried it on a 24", but Im biased towards magura's anyway. Just my preference.

I found that all my Magura setups have worked better on bigger wheels, in terms of hold. Bite's the same, but the hold seems to be miles better.

When I used heatsink/ tnn pads on my Mod, I couldnt get them to hold all the time.

Whack the same pads on my stock however, same grinding disc, etc..... a million times better.

I bought my neon bow 24" frame a few months ago, and have since slowly changed quite a few parts. The geo is now exactly the same as the full build the sell on tarty, and also running dual maguras.

I absolutely love the ride, and having come from stock, there some things I immediately found much easier. Its quite a bit shorter than the ehco, which suits me well. It would definitely highly recommend it!

On a purely pimp-level, I'm not a huge fan of the graphics, and the weird tubing isn't to everyone's taste, but it still gives me a bow-ner (sorry)

I had the chance to play around with a couple of different builds of echo 24s at radfest a few weeks ago. I really love them too. Quite a bit longer, they felt much more comparable to my old stock, I thought. They were really nice up on the back wheel, and as a taller rider, this length is probably more 'right' for me. That said, if I was given the opportunity to swap, I'd stick with my bow.

Don't know whereabouts you're based, but if you can make it to a ride in London, you're more than welcome to have a decent hop about on my bow. It will feel nearly identical to the one you're looking at.

Here's a crappy pic of how it's looking:

Hope that helps!
