Need some help regarding networking.

Basically I currently use my Macbook as a wireless adaptor for my PC using an ethernet cable and enabled network sharing.

However the Virgin superhub has a f**king wank wireless signal that cuts out all the time and is seriously unreliable.

Now, my mother won't let me run an ethernet cable downstairs. So that's out the question.

What are my other options? TP link do some sort of powerline product, but I don't know much about the power cable routings in my house. Are there any other alternatives?

Powerline products work a treat! (Y)

it'll be fine as long as both power sockets are on the same mains. Plug and play, more reliable than wireless in my case :)

How do I know if i'm on the same powerline as downstairs?

I've just started using some power line stuff too, no problems so far. Again, just check they're on the same mains. If not, you could potentially hook the mains together with an Ethernet cable, but I dunno how safe that'd be.

I've never understood any of that shit. I just duct tape ethernet cables to the floor. Easy to hoover over, you can't trip over them and it actually works, which is nice.

Issue is i'm upstairs, and I have weird stairs so can't discreetly run a cable down them, gunna order one of them links f**k it. B-)

is it all goes to the same box where all the breakers are. to be honest, 99.9% of all houses are on the same mains, its usually shit like sheds, garages that have seperate power.

You'll be fine.

Pretty sure you can... My brother runs 2 cables up to his bedroom and his stairs are pretty bent.

run the cable up the underside of metal stair support thing?

Mum will get shitty where it pokes out at the bottom near the sofa

I've ordered those things anyway so, if they don't work I'll get crafty with the tape

Bah, do what my dad did. We have miles of ethernet in the walls and floors. All around the house there'll be a discrete little hole with internet coming out of it.

They arrived today boys, easy to set up, took about 3 minutes. Also overhauled my room so all tidy, with new speeds to match!

looking forward to seeing how reliable they are, as that was my main issue before.
