bikeperson45
Got a few newbie questions, never done the whole pay monthly thing before, and if anyone can answer any I'd be much obliged. 1. Contract says 500mb of internet a month, does this include me using my home wifi connection? 2. I'm about to go to America. Talkmobile services said just get a pay as you go sim card when I'm there but now I've realised that means I don't get the same internet as my current sim does. Basically, what's the best way of using my phone and current sim card abroad? 3. Kind of the same question but because texts and calls are more expensive abroad, does this simply mean I get less texts and minutes because they're more expensive or are all over seas calls/ texts charged seperatly from the contract. I'm on a talkmobile contract, 7.50 a month I think. My dad just got it for me so didn't get to look into this before I got it.. Thanks Edited July 13, 2012 by bikeperson45
JD™
1. No 2. Get a PAYG sim while you're out there 3. Get a PAYG sim while you're out there More importantly, just don't use your phone much while you're out there - enjoy your time instead!

But if I needed the internet could I put my current sim card back in and use the internet okay? I'm assuming connecting to wifi in a cafe or something would work fine. Enjoying myself is hard with my family though chaos at the moment and will need some relief when I'm with them
JD™
You should be able to use the wifi thing regardless of the sim you're on, as it's a phone function rather than a sim function
dann2707
What JD said, you shouldn't even need to have the sim card in. But if your phones fairly recentish there will be a flight or offline mode you can turn on so ensure your simcard is deffo not operating. Luke Rainbird
Airplane/flight mode will usually turn off wifi too But yeah, you should be able to switch off mobile data which will do what you're after somewhere in the settings regardless
Tomm
Not all phones will work in the USA - it's best to check if it's tri/quad band. Also if you're planning on swapping sims then your phone will need to be unlocked. Don't even try and use your phone's data connection for anything whilst you're over there - it's really expensive. Wifi is free obviously.
bikeperson45
Yea it's unlocked and good for the US. Thanks for the replies, I'm sorted
bike_dummie
If you do get a pay as you go sim get an international one as it will be a lot cheaper than a standard UK sim as the rates don't increase.

You mean like how I said 'while you're out there'. Twice.
bike_dummie
I meant an international pay as you go sim not a UK pay as you go sim as this way you will not have to pay the higher rates as you would with the standard UK pay as you go sim when you go abroad.
