the mysterious leemur
I need to shorten the steerer on my urbans as it knackers my back running the 6 needed spacers and look stupid above the stem , planning on using a pipe cutter like this http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/handtools-storage-workwear/handtools/plumbing-tools/pipe_cutters/B-and-Q-Tube-Cutter-11247828 Will this work ? Seems too be what a lot of mtb riders use.
harmertrials
Just use a hacksaw or grinder. 2 minute job
bing
do it with a brand new hacksaw blade and a dude who knows how to use it. pipe cutters are not a very good tool for thick wall tubes
AndrewEH1
That tool might be a good starting point but you will need to use a hacksaw, or a ginder if you are feeling brave, to finish it off due to the thickness of the steering tube. dann2707
Don't bother with that if you don't already have it. Hacksaw.
N.Wood
Mark it with a bit of tape / straight marker line. Make sure you measure lots of times and cut to the top of the line / tape. You can always chop more off...

Captain Scarlet
If your like me and somehow manage to cut horrendously on the piss with a hacksaw, use an old seat clamp or even a reflector bracket from another bike as a guide, just clamp it where you want and it'll cut straight each time.
