casualjoe
Up until recently I had only used Paypal to buy things, like you do. Then last week I wanted to transfer money from my bank account to my Paypal account, weird thing being that they wanted all my details again and it would take 3-5 days to reconfirm it all, I had only updated my card details a few months previous so wasn't sure what was going on. Now it seems that all my regular transactions are free, which is much better than before. How did I not know this? So can anyone confirm that transferring money to your Paypal account somehow unlocks free (normal) trading? Cheers
Matt Vandart
because they are making money off your money while it is in there
Jake.
Yeah I believe when you have balance in your paypal there's no fee, when I pay through bank theres a fee.
casualjoe
Thing is, I only put the money in there for a day then took it straight out again, so the balance was £0 when I went to use Paypal today, yet all free. Shoulda probably mentioned that at the start. Edited July 7, 2012 by casualjoe

monkeyseemonkeydo
It's free to pay for stuff but you should be charged fees if you're receiving payments.
casualjoe
I think this is something anyone can do Say we want to send zeromatt £80.. We get a choice of pay or no pay, my bank account is my debit card so it's qualifies for both. So would Matt get charged the fee instead? davidbarr
Yeah, if you link your bank account to your payapl account it is free. If you don't and just use a card that you've enetered the details of you will be charged. Pretty sure that's how it works anyway.

Jolfa
It's always been free to send payments, it's the person receiving the money who gets charged. Unless you send it as a gift.

Unless you send it as a gift. yep, which is why some people say "it will cost £50 if paid via paypal gift". If things go wrong though, paypal wont help you out - you did send it to a friend or relative after all
casualjoe
This is mad, they've been charging me to send to friends since I started an account with them. Strange bureaucrats
Greetings
So would Matt get charged the fee instead? He wouldn't. PayPal buyer protection is a load of nonsense anyway, got ripped off twice. If someone wants to scam you they'll manage anyway.
ZeroMatt
Feel free to send me £180000000 Joe. Also this tool is pretty handy for figuring out paypal fees should you need to.

Matt Vandart
You can get charged for sending money, you get asked, buyer/you pay the fee? And you can get charged a fee for sending as a gift also.
