Burglarboycie
Hi all So i decided to abandon the Speedrace frame after so many stories about problems with the frame and the fact it was a re-weld. I got this '08 Echo Pure instead. It came in a very dark grey/blue/black sort of colour so it underwent a session with the Nitro-Mors. I also did a few more of my own weight saving modifications. I removed the rear end of the top tube and did my own headtube cutout It also has holes in the bb shell So this is how it looks so far, with my Trialtech SL stem When i have some more spare time i will give the frame a good going over with wire wool etc to shine it up a bit What do you reckon so far? Also with this stem (130mm 25degree rise) how mant headset spacers would people recommend that i use? Thanks for looking James Edited July 19, 2012 by Burglarboycie
Jake.
Get some pictures up! I may have a hope tech 2 for sale, it's almost brand new. If you're interested PM me.
Burglarboycie
Trying to get the pics up, my phone goes through the motions of attaching the file then when i submit the edited post its nowhere to be seen!! As for the brake, how does it compare in weight/performance to a mono/trial brake? Cheers James
Jake.
Upload it to Photobucket then link it from photobucket to here. It seems just as good as the hope mono trial I had on my mod, not too sure on the weight. PM me if you're still interested so we don't spam this thread
Burglarboycie
Thanks a lot JMCD, Photobucket hadn't crossed my mind to be honest!! The joys of being stuck using a smartphone for all my internet usage!! Anyway, PM'd regarding brake James
Jake.
Haha no worries, my iPhone has a photobucket app which makes my life so much easier. Use caustic soda to remove anodized paint. Also, use the link option to show pictures in the thread instead of a direct link.
Burglarboycie
Ah, will do that for the next pics!! Just got the photobucket app for my android so i should be good now!! Do you think i should strip them then? Cheers James
Jake.
Depends, you should build it up as a whole first to see what it looks like, silver forks with those forks look good though I think.
Burglarboycie
Yeah i think i will leave the forks black for the time being. I cant decide what colour rims i should go for, play it safe with white and go for a nice classy polished, black and white scheme or go for fluro of some sort, probably green?! What do you reckon? James
Jake.
Keep it simple, go for black. Can always strip them to silver in the future.
isitafox
Must admit I love them Speedrace frames
Burglarboycie
Its nicely put together i must admit, neat welds etc. I have heard that the rear brake mounts are in a bit of an odd place though?! I will see how i get on when the time comes to fit wheel/brake etc. Pic of frame and forks together Excuse Elvis (my Labrador) he always wants to come out to the garage when i go out there! What do you reckon, strip the forks or stick with black? Im leaning towards staying black at the moment Cheers James Edited July 1, 2012 by Burglarboycie
isitafox
Yeah stick black!
ghostrider88
I prefer when frame and forks match, but it´s all up to you
Burglarboycie
I usually do as well. And as i plan to go for silver headset and brake mounts it could all look very shiney. But i still think i will leave them black for the time being. Ive decided im going for white rims. James
harmertrials
silverrrrrrrrrr
Burglarboycie
Haha. Another vote for silver!! Its looking like a landslide win for fully polished then at the moment!! I will probably have to order a couple of Echo stickers from Tarty to put on them once the logos vanish under a bath of caustic soda!! harmertrials
the logos will stay there, check out mine in my thread
Burglarboycie
Excellent!! Think they could be going silver then!! Thanks harmertrials. (pm'd by the way)
Martin Reynolds
Solo? good luck with that. The brake mounts are welded in the wrong place on mine, and ive now got a nice 2 inch crack down the downtube
Burglarboycie
I dont think its a solo. I dont actually know what model it is to be fair
harmertrials
It is a solo, but mine had no issues with cracks or brake mounts
Martin Reynolds
It is a solo, but mine had no issues with cracks or brake mounts That really surprises me. Mine had the mounts welded in the wrong place, so does Kierans, and Matt Pengallys
Burglarboycie
It was cracked near the headtube but was welded by a friend of the previous owner. And a damn good job he has done too!! Reckon the headtube will be stronger now thanks to the addition of a rather burly weld. I hope i dont get these issues with the mounts, ive heard very mixed opinions. Most people who have not had issues with them say they ride really nice so im willing to put the time into the set up etc to make it work. Plus i paid literally nothing for it so its worth a go! Cheers James
Burglarboycie
So i just picked up some caustic soda so the forks will be taking a bath tomorrow night. Looking forward to seeing it all in silver!! James
