trickythomas
Just got myself a Pashley 26ghz frame and fork, although pretty dated now, I always wanted one, ever since I was about 15.. anyway now I am building it up I am not sure what kinda of bar and stem combo would work with the frame? Any suggestions?

LEON
trialtech high rise and a system ex 90x35 stem, as this frame looks quite streety No no and no, it's a dated frame with a 10mm bb drop, a high front end will f**k up the ride. On mine I almost found the headtube was too long, I used a 90 x 10 stem, no spacers & 2" risers. Geo wise it's virtually a Planet X Zebdi mk4/5, none of this modern bar/stem is made for such a low short bike. Look up Tim Stedman's old one, I'm sure he used a similar front end to me.
trickythomas
cheers guys, that is exactly what my problem was, it is old geometry so all these new fangeled stems looked like they might mess it up.. although having not even riden it yet i guess it comes own to personal preference to. bit of trial and error probably. Will look up stedmans old build i think.
isitafox
You want some old Azonic O'Neil risers on there and a low rise stem as above
bing
if you want an old school echo stock stem for free, think its 110 x 10, pm me your address and I'll post it to you for nowt
ogre
as for the rest of the build, keep it british if you can, middleburns, hope hubs etc... not a necesity but it'll really make the build...
cai
I think you should run which ever bars you find the comfiest, and team them which a low stem and no headset spacers to equate for the low BB of the frame. Perhaps a Stone Edge CNC stem? (http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/26_inch_stems/stone_edge_cnc/c41p11136.html) they're pretty cheap at £25 and come in 90mm, 100mm and 110mm by 5°. Ross McArthur
Cheap at £25? LOL. Go on Chain Reaction and get yourself a £5 jobby. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=59568 The 90x17 will do the trick with a set of 25.4 2" rise bars. EDIT...Having a bit of rise on the stem is good imo. As long as the stem rises roughly in the same line as the top tube it will look good on the bike. A flat stem or a mega hard-on rise stem doesnt look properer. I have to agree on the Middleburns and Hope comment. A pro2 would be nicer than having to fly kick an XC to find an engagement. I wouldn't dream of putting anything Deng or Tryall on it... I dont mind Maxxis or Continental though Go for Mavic or Alex rims. V on the front, 04 Maggi on the rear with blacks or kool stops, smooth rim. Edited June 19, 2012 by Ross McArthur
cai
Cheap at £25? LOL. Go on Chain Reaction and get yourself a £5 jobby. Okay £25 isn't the cheapest around, but I was originally going to suggest a Hope CNC stem (£60)- so In comparison the Stone Edge CNC didn't seem so expensive. But yeah, if you can get away with a £5 stem then go for it
LEON
Nothing wrong with trialtechs, as shape wise they're just really stiff Azonic 2.5" risers. But in my opinion Trialtechs are too stiff, I like the signature Azonic flex. But yeah don't take any notice of what stem you see on a Hex, their bb's are about 30mm higher than yours. And as Ross said, that 90x17 fsa stem is the best stem you'll ever buy for that money, it's worth buying 2 or 3 because they won't be there long. Matt Vandart
got some middleburns if you want to buy em.
forteh
I've got a pro trials bash and ring in silver spare if matt doesn't have one
trickythomas
I like the idea of keeping it British that's pretty cool. I have middleburn pro trials (black to) for it, and that £5 stem looks like a winner although a hope stem would be a little more fitting for the uk connection but not at 10 times the price.. what a about renthal bars? really appreciate all the comments too, been scratching my head over it for ages.. LEON
The modern oversize freeride renthal bars? They're only 38mm rise and not very upswept, would kill the retro theme too, try & get some Azonic doublewalls, 2" or 2.5" is perfect. trickythomas
yeh, fair point Leon, will try to get a feel of some azonics and see how they are as I have the flat n' wide bars on my other street/thrash bike (a ns holy with manitou circuses) just now. haven't ridden trials in about 5 years haha
unclechrissy
Hi Just joined the forum today. Not a big trials rider anymore (36 with twin 4 year old boys!!). Dug out my 26mhz frame and fork a couple of days ago with the intention of selling it but got a spontaneous enthusiasm to build it up again. Its still in pretty good nick with no dings but I decided a polish wasn't good enough and decided a sand blast and powder coat would be a good idea! Anyway, the reason I'm posting is because I'm hoping I may be of some help, maybe, to somebody, somewhere?! I trawled the internet for several days looking for Pashley(.co.uk) stickers but found none, so I searched for the graphics (or a good quality picture) but again nothing. I read on a forum somewhere (maybe this one?) that Pashley weren't particularly helpful so I decided to design my own (same as the originals of coures!) using my frame decals as the guide. I currently don't have free access to a vinyl cutter but with a background in design I have the file in the appropriate format ready to go. I'll try and attach a pic for you to see.......... If you would like a copy of the file in a .eps, .svg or .ai format for your local vinyl sticker supplier feel free to send me a message with your email and I'll ping it to you..... Hope this helps. Skoze
Hey dude, if you're after a well suited bar + stem i have a 25.4mm 90x15* Thomson with some 2.5" azonic doublewalls, or a 31.8mm 90x10* Thomson which is brand new, if you're interested

trickythomas
The frame had a kinda flip paint/diesel spill respray at some point so tried stripping it back with nitromorse to get it back to the 1998 fiesta red that I remember them being.. much harder than i thought! but getting there.. LEON
These were never available in light blue. Do you mean the 26Mhz? (Blue or ivory) The 26Ghz was black or Fiesta maroon only. Edited July 11, 2012 by LEON
