Chewbacca Sounding Front Disc Brake...

Hi I have mechanical onza front disc brake, it has the original pads and rotor. The brake isn't working as good as it where before. And sometimes when you brake it sounds like that hairy thing called chewbacca, and the sound is actually pretty damn similar! I've tried to use disc brake clener and rub the brakes with it and then dry it of, only got worse. I've tried to sand the pads and the disc and then re-bed them in... No luck sofar... Any tips? Cheers!

You can try burning the pads off over a gas ring, or bake them in the oven @ 200°c for 20-30 minutes or so, that will get all of the oil that youre likely to get out of them. Degrease the disk with a solvent cleaner, sand the pads to fresh material and scuff up the surface of the disk with sandpaper or a flap wheel in a drill. Put it all back together and bed the pads in again, wont be 100% but should be useable to an extent. Better solution is to put new pads in but they can be recovered as long as you can cope with a slightly less powerful brake :)
