Long Time Mtber & Bmxer, Moving To Try Trials

Hi guys

I've been registered here for years but haven't posted since I first thought about moving to trials! A lot has happened since then… finished uni, worked as an engineer, started career in photography, got married etc etc.

Basically, my core strength and fitness is severely lacking as I'm often spending days upon days behind a computer. I've been a keen MTBer and BMXer for years, but never get the chance to ride MTB anymore. I think trials will be a great way of busting stress and building my core again without spending time in a gym.

I'm unsure whether I should go 24" or 20". Basically, I'll be buying new (budget £1k), and have the following two in mind:

http://www.tartybike.../c10p11565.html

I'm 5' 9", so the size of the mod concerns me slightly. Will it be comfortable? Should I learn on mod as it's much more beginner friendly?

Any advice appreciated. I have tried searching, but could only find "mi budgets like £300 mate & i wud luv a new bike" type posts :)

Thanks!

I've never ridden the 24" Echo but everyone seems to love it, so that gets my vote.

It might be helpful if you could have a go on somebodies 20"/24"/26" and get a feel for it.

Your height shouldn't really affect you when riding 20" there are plenty of taller riders who seem to cope okay.

Echo 24"s are so so lush, it's the new fad I think. Everyone seems to be getting one.

Height doesn't really matter too much in my opinion, unless you're like 6" 4+ then I'm pretty sure you sorta have to get a stock, but there's riders who ride mods and are that too so don't worry.

Where about do you live? If you live near Brighton, I'd happily let you have a go on my mod, and I ride with locals. They'd most likely let you have a go on their bikes too (24" and 26").

Its worth asking tarty, but Im pretty sure the BB to handlebar reach and stack is very similar on both the 20 and 24 echo. The wheel size has little to do with the comfort of the cockpit. If you have been doing MTB and BMX I would recommend thinking about an inspired element as well, the lower bb feels and shorter cockpit feels much more like an mtb, so your skills translate easier (at least for me). Also I have heard that BMX'ers like these too.
