CalRobbo341
I'm not calling you a weight weenie here, but are you aha, I seen you had the weight low on all of your previous bikes, modifing what ever you possibly could.
harmertrials
I suppose. The rear rim is the only modifying that's gone down on this bike. Just after some new tyres now
Jake.
Savage. By far the nicest looking echo 24" I've seen to date.
koxxboy14
that looks amazing! what tools did you use to modify the rear rim?
harmertrials
what tools did you use to modify the rear rim? Just a hacksaw and a file. I'll put up a pic of it before sanding, you get more of a feel for the method. Edited June 8, 2012 by harmertrials
dann2707
Looking well! How many grams does single walling save roughly? Very tempted to do my Echo urban rear but pretty scared of it puncturing all the time. But had a go on one of those single walled onza rims and as theres more air in the back tyre you seem to bounce so much more, good for sidehops i'd imagine.
harmertrials
Just weighed the offcuts, 100g, plus a fair bit of filling would probably be about 120g. The cut outs saved around 100g too. Just been for a little play on it, feels heavenly in every sense.
Sam T
That looks awesome! Very tempted to strip my stem and forks. How easy was it to take the paint off with caustic soda?
harmertrials
It's a really easy process to be honest. I don't recommend doing it in your bedroom at 3am and then trying to sleep though. Might do the pedal cages soon.

dann2707
Not sure how you cut out the holes wider still, even with a hacksaw and file,.how would you manage to cut the way the rim goes, obvs cutting across the rim is simple but cutting the other way seems impossible with a saw? Thought a dremel would suit. Planning on doing mine today..
harmertrials
Right: 1) unbuild your wheel 2) cut 2 slots either side of the whole but be careful on how far you cut 3) snap out with molegrips - this makes the square 4) file it neat 5) run the file across the top Word of warning though, if your erd isn't deep enough it won't work
