Aii_Aitch
So I have the spoke key, and i've given it a few goes but I just can't get it 100% right. I seem to get half way through truing and forget which way I should turn the key, so if anyone has any handy rhyme or something... Also, once it's all trued, how do I then get the same tension in all of the spokes, or should they all even out?
mr_malcolm
this isnt the most helpful of answers i know but a lot of it comes with practice after a while it just becomes second nature ish.
Aii_Aitch
I was expecting an answer like that. Okay, I'll get to it.
Twitch-119
Erm, does "Lefty loosey, righty tighty" work on nipples? I'm sure it should at least on a truing stand it would, if you're on a bike doing of the brake pads or something like that then just think of the said ryhme backwards, if that makes sense? Aii_Aitch
"Righty loosey, lefty tightey"? I guess it makes sense. I can't do anything until tomorrow anyway because without getting it perfect when I take off my wheel, it'll only touch the pads again. But thanks
Twitch-119
Yeah something like that
RobinJI
Yep, just think of it as the usual left loosey, right tighty if you're looking down the spoke, from the nipple to the hub. If you're looking from the hub, towards the nipple, then it's the opposite. Either that, or if you're normally fine with thread directions, then it might make it easier to imagine you're tightening it with a screwdriver in the back of the nipple inside the rim (as in under the rim tape.)
