tigriss
Hello. my name is Ronan, 19 years old. I'm french and i'm looking to spend a year (less or more) in UK to improve my english. I'm not here just for asking a house and meals. But I would like to spend a year far from home and mainly in a country where english is speaken to have an experience and a best mastery of the language. I should leave in september 2013 if i find something. So if there's someone who's got a house and that have a job for me to help him for the food and other stuffs, i would be very recognising! Anyway if you have a house but no job for me i could be interested But maybe just for 6 month. So tell me too And it will be funniest between trials riders. I know that i'm not asking something easy and it's maybe early to find me something but I'll prefer to have a first relation on the internet before to leave for another country. thanks for reading and for every proposition or council you could give. Ronan. Edited June 10, 2012 by tigriss
MadManMike
Hi Ronan, Good idea to ask on here, there's some friendly people on here that I'm sure would help. I would help you but I don't have enough space! If you do end up living here and in the south east, let me know if you want to go riding Mike. If i want to learn english, it's not to stay in France later because i don't believe in my country anymore, so maybe i'll live next to you in the future ! nobody knows. Ronan. tigriss
you're right i didn't think about that. But i just though that if someone had a small grocery or something, it could be possible. Anyway if nobody has got a job for me, i'm saving money to still have a trip. but for less longer
RobinJI
Sounds like a good idea. One of my housemates at Uni last year was a girl from France, she'd come over for the final year of her degree. It seemed like it had the potential to work well in the ways you say, but she just spent the whole time with the other french students, and eventually moved out of our place to be closer to them, rather than bothering to make English friends. This seems to be a problem with people coming to live here from abroad, it's all too easy to remain within a closed community, and the British people around you won't appreciate it, which is when problems can occur. (Not in her case, they were a nice bunch, and I could sympathise with them in that particular situation, but they would have got a better experience if they'd tried to integrate with the British students more.) I wouldn't say that foreign nationality will cause too much of an issue finding work, as long as you're all above board, and you can speak English at an understandable level then employers will be much more bothered about your general attitude/appearance than the fact you've got an accent, a pretty large proportion of British people have strong accents anyway, and half of them will be worst than you are at grammar/pronunciation anyway . It's worth thinking hard about what part of the country you stay in, England's a varied place, and although the surface of the culture appears pretty similar, there are big differences in lifestyle between living in different areas. I've just spent the last 9 months in Oxford, and it's a lovely city, beautiful architecture, great night life, good shopping, safe and friendly culture ect.. but as someone who's grown up and lived in the South West I found it didn't really suit me. It'll depend what you want out of it, and what you're attitude to life and having fun is. Down here, pretty much everyone my age is into active/extreme sports, and in most peoples cases, at least a couple of different sports. Basically everyone over 18/19 can drive and has a car, and makes use of it all the time. Being used to that, as lovely as Oxford was, it wasn't for me, I found it a bit dull. I guess it'll depend what you want out of it. The best way to describe it I can think of is that if New York's higher on your places to visit than New Zeland/Australia/Canada, then head for the South East, but if it's New Zeland/Australia/Canada you'd chose first, then the South West is likely to be more your sort of thing. I know that's a huge stereotype, but I'd say it's largely true. (For the record, don't expect either to live up to those comparisons, they're very much a lesser version rather than an alternative!) I would say this as a Southerner, but it's also worth considering that despite being a small country, there really is a noticeable difference in the climate and weather between the North and South of England. In fact even just between Oxford and Somerset I found a noticeable difference, when I was in Oxford I'd regularly phone home and be told they were having better weather than me. (PS, Unfortunately I'm far from being in a position to offer you somewhere to stay.) Edited June 8, 2012 by RobinJI

tigriss
RobinJi, thank you for all you said! I don't wanna be like the girl you said, staying with french people. I want to go abroad alone. I really want to learn that language better than i know it for the moment and it's not by being with french people that it would be a good experience. For the way i'm having fun, i'm always on my bike or motorbike (Ducati), I have my car too and use to move sometimes very far for a party. I like to drink a good beer too. With your description i'll prefer the south west but i don't really care about that, i can adapt to the people i'm with. Cheers, Ronan. Simpson
I don't mean to be harsh or anything but....... Asking to spend 6 months at someones if you can't find a job is never going to happen, just to rent a bedroom in a 4 bed house costs me £325 a month, so your essentially asking someone you don't know to move in AND FEED YOU, when if it was a lodger who did the same thing then you could make about £2-3k (I mean if anyone wants to give me space and food for 6 months I'm probably willing to move! haha). I'm not trying to knock your hopes or anything; if you said you were planning on coming over for 2 weeks then I'm sure people would have been a lot more inviting. And I don't think asking on a public forum, "if someone had a small grocery or something, it could be possible." is a great idea. In fact I'll leave no further comment on it, it's not a great first impression though. IMO you need find out your legal requirements for working over here, if you own a Ducatti and a car then you must have some sort of skills that may be useful to us. I thought that under the EU you could work here legally, so start applying to places and ask on here for any advice with certain areas that you are interested in living. tigriss
I think you didn't understand, i was maybe not very clear too. If i don't have a job, i'll just stay 6 month because i'll pay the person who lodge me with the money i saved. I'm studying in alternation, that means that i spend one month at university and the other one in me enterprise (i work in an electricity distribution enterprise). So i thiink i can safe as much money for food, and water and other stuffs for about 6 months. If nobody can lodge me then i'll be going to the hostel (at the beginning) and try to find a job there. I really want to spend a few months in england. In the south preferably. thanks for reading
